VHS Capture in Vegas
My father has gotten into video editing. So for xmas I bought him an old copy of Sony Vegas to play with. However, he’s been playing with old VHS tapes he filmed years ago making creations and having fun in his retirement.
I see he bought the Dazzle DVC 100. It seems to be nothing but trouble. We’re now looking for a different hardware solution to digitize the old VHS tapes. Something that is compatible with Vegas (Dazzle isn’t).
The Dazzle never seems to have any of the interlacing in sync and video just looks really poor when it’s captured (worse than if you just play back the VHS tape). Then it doesn’t seem to be compatible with anything but pinnacle studio.
Any suggestions on a decent capture card?

If you have an old miniDV or Digital8 camcorder laying around…most of them have what is called DV pass thru. This is what I use. You just use the mini plug A/V cable that came with your camcorder and hook that up to your VCR. Then use a firewire cable from the camcorder to the computer (if you have a firewire port, which most newer computers have).
Use the capture utility within Vegas to capture the video.

Get him a Canopus ADVC-55 or ADVC-110. It’s worth every penny if you care about the tapes.
