    Right, get this

Long story: I had a huge project, spun over 2 1TB HDD (its a feature.) its all edited, all the sound except the music is there. Then my Computer crashed, so i had to rebuild it. Did so, and re linked all the video files and audio files perfectly, all indexed and conformed. Whenever i go to play any clip, the audio doesn’t come out the speakers. I’ve tested the audio with other programs, no problem, but première doesn’t seem to want to play anything. But … if i export any of the audio files, i can hear them if i use another program!

Any suggestions as to what may be wrong?

    regards

Premiere’s timeline audio preview can be heard either on your PC speakers or speakers connected to an external DV device….but not both!
The choice is Playback Settings. Click the Output icon in the lower right corner of the Program Window and choose Playback Settings. Choose Desktop Audio.

In the preferences the default device is Premiere Pro Windows sound, so there is a driver installed also

Make sure audio track is not muted in Premiere. Sorry, had to ask, but stranger things have happened.

Try this – start a NEW project and drag a clip in – do you have sound? Just to narrow down whether Premiere is “broken” or if it’s only that particular project.

For that matter, create a NEW project, then IMPORT the problem project and see what that does

Just tried both an HDV and a DV project, still no sound. and not muted. I think that it must be premiere that is “broken” rather then the project

One thing to do is to look in the Device Manager under “Sound, video, and game controllers” and make sure there is nothing yellowed out, also you can try to rebuild the Plug-in Cache file in Ppro, just hold down the shift key when starting Ppro and keep holding till the welcome screen where you select projects appears. check any custom settings after reseting.

Nothing yellow in device manager. I held down shift while loading up adobe and nothing happened – would a message come up saying “plug in cache restored” or something similar. how do you check the custom settings. I’ve tried several resets of the PCas well.

The reset doesn’t generate a message, just check any settings you made in preferences and the project to make sure they’re ok. only have to do it one time and reseting the computer wouldn’t do anything and could cause harm as it would be a non-standard shutdown, you only use a computer reset if the machine is stuck and wouldn’t respond.
