‘Newbie’ doesn’t begin to cover me…

I am using After Effects 5. How do I add text to a piece? Unbelievable, isn’t it? I know but I can’t find a Text tool button and the help files just assume you can do it.
    Your shamefacedly,

    Phil

go to layer/new and add text layer then just type anything and press enter on your numeric keyboard, then it will also appear on the timeline for you to design.

actually AE5 doesn’t have text layers. You need to make a solid (Ctrl-Y), then apply the effect “Basic Text” it should be near the bottom of the effects menu. There is also “Path text” which has some more options, and “number” which is good for animating countdowns or timecode.

Thanks a million for that. I must play about with it. So AE is not a good candidate for making Flash based websites featuring large amounts of text, I guess? Or is there a way around this?

    Thanks again,

well I find AE is very good for animating text – but the problem is going to be how you get it into flash and keep a decent filesize….. because it will not be vector based like flash is….
