    Strange problem here.

I know this is kind of long but it’s a little complicated.

I am capturing some clips from a DVD using Handbrake.
It creates .mp4 files. at 23.769 FPS
For some reason, these files cannot be opened in Final Cut Pro 5
However, AE can open them just fine.

So I must encode these files in AE using something FCP will recognize.
Keeping in mind that I’m changing my FCP sequence to match whatever codec.

Going for the highest quality here…

DV NTSC – Works but needs rendering in FCP and picture quality is weak. (not sure why it needs a render)

Apple Intermediate Codec – Does NOT need to be rendered in FCP, however gives me a “Media Performance” Error upon import. Also, on larger clips over 500mb, the sound goes out of sync.

Animation – great quality but the file is just too large.

MJPEG – seems to work fine, no rendering needed, but files are very large and high data rate.

Ideally I’d like to use the Apple Intermediate Codec, because the picture quality is good and has a low data rate, however the sound sync issue is really throwing me off.

If I export out the clip from AE – video and audio seperately, and line them up in FCP, I notice that the audio clip is always a little bit longer, maybe 8 frames, depending on the length of the clip. The longer the clip, the more out of sync the audio. This is what is throwing me off but I don’t understand why.

Another thing that is interesting, my clip is 23.769, but AE reconizes is as 23.99 in the clip window.
Very weird. Theres just so many issues here, if anyone can help I would be very greatful. If you need me to explain something better please let me know.
    thanks

I made a mistake in my first post.

The frame rate of my original video is 23.976 not 23.769
