    Hi folks,
I’m new to Premiere Pro2.0. I’ve worked with Premiere 6.5

Last night I hade a strange nightmare. I’ll explain with an example:

    I have 2 PC’s. Let’s call them PC_A and PC_B

    PC_A
Win XP + Premiere Pro 2.0 + FireWire adapter
No video out. Just the FW port

    PC_B
    Win 2K + Premiere 6.5 + Targa3000
    Video OUT from the T3K

On PC_B, I capture, process and generate AVI DV files.
Those playback correctly on PC_A and PC_B

On PC_A I capture from the SONY Z1 camera via FW connection.
The capture files play ok on both machines.
I get video OUT from them on the Targa hardware.

    So far so good…
On PC_A, when I export a movie in DV, it plays ok on PP2, but DOES NOT have video out on PC_B.
    Just the audio.

On Premiere 6.5, if I do ALT + scroll I get the correct image on the program window but on Play there’s NO IMAGE on video Out.

BTW. On PC_B, Combustion accepts the files and also Procoder.
But Premiere 6.5 just gives me Audio. No image.

As far as I know “Microsoft AVI DV” should play everywhere.

    Any ideas ?
    Thanks
    Carlos

It’s only a nightmare. Tell us about your next one and keep the suspense up.

    I’m affraid that’s NOT a nightmare.
I walked away from the office “yesterday” 3:00 AM.

Today I arrived and the “nightmare” still stands.

    So it’s quite real!

I’m going to do a couple of new export movies on the Premiere Pro 2.0 machime and see the results.

    Any hint on this?

[Camafe] “As far as I know “Microsoft AVI DV” should play everywhere.”
Not necessarily, MS DV AVI is usually Direct Show type 1, Premiere uses a VFW derivative Direct Show Type 2, if you put MS DV AVI on 6.5’s timeline you should have a red bar indicating that you have to render it before use.

    Blast1,

    I can understand that.
But I get NO red line on the timeline…!

Here is the sequence that gives me problems:

On Premiere Pro 2.0 (on one PC) I capture from Sony Z1 in DV via FireWire.
Those Capture files play ok on that PC with PP2 and on another one with P6.5.
    So far so good.

I import that Capture file to the PP2 timeline.
The Work bar fits to it’s size.
I do a Export Movie from the workbar in Microsoft AVI DV PAL.

The generated file (“almost” a copy of the original Capture) plays ok on PP2
but on P6.5 has audio but NO image.

The P6.5 timeline does not present a red line.
If I do PLAY on P6.5, I have sound and a BLACK video out.

    BUT… …

If on P6.5 I do ALT+Scrub I do get image on the Monitor Program window, BUT DO NOT get image on video out trought YUV signal.

I open Procoder and/or Combustion, import that DV file, and on both programs I get the correct picture.
If I export, from any of those, to DV, them… Premiere 6.5 plays them OK.

To me this is QUITE strange.

I’ve doouble checked all the configs, but no better results.

BTW. Any file that I export in DV from the P6.5 are properly read by PP2 (as it’s supposed!)

I honestly never found anything like that in my life.
    We’re always learning something.

    I’ve made a test.
I’ve capture 1second on DV PAL (around 3M)
Then on PP2 I’ve exported this 1s clip to another in AVI DV PAL.

This second clip is the one that has NO image on video Out on Premioere 6.5

If some one can help me and analize this last file and find what’s wrong, I’ll appreciate.

    Let me know.

    Thanks

I’m confused as to why you are working backwards?
    PPro2 to PP6.5
Why don’t you keep working in PPro2?
If it’s because you have hardware that lets you see the timeline to a monitor, that can be done through the Z1 camera in PPro2.
Make sure the camera is set to DV and it will output through it with the analog cables to a monitor.
