Very slow rendering times?
Posted by Brian Stolarski on May 14, 2013 at 7:08 pmSo first off here are my computer specs,
GTX 660TI
i5 3750k @ 4.2GHZ
8GB DDR3 RamI record video’s using a program called OBS and i’m rendering in Sony vegas pro 12.0 64-bit.
When trying to render a video that’s about 10 minutes it’s taking 2-3 hours. I’m trying to render the video to 720p.. why would my rendering times be so slow with my specs?

May 14, 2013 at 8:54 pmTwo things are wrong that I can see:
(1) You are recording at 35 fps and rendering at 29.97 fps. That means a lot of frames are being blended together to go from 35 to 29.97 and your Core i5 is not the fastest CPU to be doing this with. Try Disable Resample on all of the events or record at 29.97. (or record and render at 30fps but don’t mix frame rates)
(2) Your render template for 720p uses an aspect ratio of 1.3333 which is wrong. Your pixel aspect ratio should be 1.0000.
Also WMV is the worst format to be rendering to becasue it’s not GPU accelerated and takes a lot of CPU. I would render to MainConcept AVC using the Internet HD 720p or 1080p template and enable CUDA in the template so that it takes advantage of your GTX 660 Ti GPU.

a couple of comments, for Vegas to take advantage of the 6XX series GPU, latest Nvidia WHQL drivers are required, and the support for Vegas is in beta, so it’s a bit of hit or miss, using Sony AVC/MVC templates forces Vegas to use the 660 Ti, way quicker renders if you don’t mind AVC instead of Mainconcept.
