I am doing a simple fade-up of a talking head over a white background using opacity change to do the fade; no big deal. Rendering to M100 codec, lower field first, best quality. When the render is finished and imported to Media 100, the fade-up is stroby; not smooth. So I decided to not do the fade up with the opacity setting on the talking head but, instead, to place a white layer over the top and fade it out with opacity change, revealing the talking head. But when I get it into Media 100, same result: slightly stroby; not smooth fade-up. I’ve done this sort of thing before with the same software; same Dual G4 system. Any thoughts about how I can smooth out this fade?
    TIA

You’re right, Dave. I’ve burned myself that way before. But this time I did interpret the footage. Thanks for the thought.

this might be a stupid response but can u use another export from ae? like uncompressed quicktime and bring that in, it seems like the problem isn’t in your method but in your format.

It was a simple question, after all, and a case of pilot error. My source material is beta sp 16×9 anamorphic. I had been rendering it from AE as a widescreen image. When I set the render back to 720×480 widescreen (1.2 pixel aspect ratio), everything went fine. My bad.
