720p30 timeline, tried DVCPRO HD, Prores 422. One layer of DV25 scaled to 150%, graphic animation codec w/ alpha (960×720)… that’s it. But the render takes forever… 5 minutes or so to render 12 seconds. CPU usage never goes above 20%, disk usage spikes to 40MB/sec, but only the read.. Writes are pegged at the low, low rate of 1-2MB/sec.. Tried many different settings, codecs, RGB, 8 bit YUV, nothing improves this. Switched scratch disk to (fast) dedicated internal drive, no change. Is this normal?

To low performance. When I see things like that, the first thing I do is to close and reopen the project and try again. If keeps so slow, I start by optimizing the System (Safe boot, permisions and DiskWarrior). And if keeps slow after the optimizing I start to think that is an FC problem.
The last thing I do (before re-installing) is to trash preferences.
Normally what I do first is open a new project and select and drag everything from the first project to the Brownser of the new one. This works in the most part of the “Error: Out of memory” and other weird situations like that.

    [rafalaos] “”Error: Out of memory””

Ever try “Clear Ram Preview” for that one. Has worked wonders for me. When Motion starts to lag, I go “Mark -> Ram Preview -> Clear RAM Preview” and all is fast again.

Not sure if it helps with export times, but does wonders while working in motion.

I have this same problem. Fairly simple effects on DV footage take forever to render on my Mac Pro (Quad 3GHz, 4GB), and RT playback rarely works. Activity Monitor shows my processors never getting above 25% or so. Maybe all this rendering is done by the video card instead of the CPU? But I have a Radeon X1900 with 512MB, so I think that should be pretty powerful, no?
