I am creating an intro for a travel video that superimposes moving frames (the moving frames are active video themselves).

The problem is that the moving video frames, about half the size of the main video portion, exhibits vertical black lines bordering the right and left sides of the frame (the top and bottom edges are fine). I would like to have the edges of these moving frames clean all the way around (no black edges). How do I accomplish this?

When I view the moving frames within the Event Pan/Crop window, the vertical black lines are there. I cannot crop them out this way because the frame is constant.

I included a still with yellow arrows pointing to the unwanted vertical black lines. Very much appreciated if you could show me how to eliminate these. Thanks!

Not sure why you can’t crop them out with the Event Pan/Crop tool, but that is the only way to eliminate the black lines IF they are in the original footage. Just make sure Maintain Aspect Ratio is selected and crop in 3-5 pixels and you should be good to go.

One problem I occasionally run into with masks especially is that you can get noticeable lines and borders when applying filters to clips. So, when I do a mask, it works perfectly, but when I add a little color correction to it, the edge becomes apparent. I haven’t figured out a solution to that other than a pre-render of the correction to the clip before applying the mask.

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I’m a little confused. With the Event Pan/Crop tool, the image (or video in this case) remains stationary, constant. All of the video manipulation occurs with the (here comes my Vegas Movie Studio prowess) big letter “F” encased within a rectangle, then within a circle thing (a definition of this thing would help me a lot).

I’m using the “F” thing to resize the video to about half, then slowly pan it from left to right across the screen. How can I also use this tool to crop the left and right sides of the video clip, and produce the panning effect at the same time?

The vertical black lines appear on the video image within the Event Pan/Crop tool, as I manipulate the “F” into what I want it to do.

I don’t know if the black lines are imported as a result of the video camera, since most of the footage used takes up the whole viweing screen (and cropping would be straight forward here).

In this case I’m using a video segment, reduced in size so all four sides are seen, and panning it from one side to another. Here, black edges are a factor (in this case the left and right sides) and I would very much like to crop them out (overall dimension of the moving video clip would not be that important here, since it is just a special effect). Thanks!
