vericam capturing
Posted by Joseph Bradley on February 8, 2006 at 5:50 pmHey, out there.
Who’s got the scoop on capturing and editing vericam tape that has numerous speed changes? Thanks.

February 8, 2006 at 7:22 pmWhat is the MAIN framerate they shot? Did they plan the shoot around one framerate? They should have.
I am editing a project that was primarily shot 720p24 at 23.98, but with some (a lot) of footage shot at 59.94, so that we can slo-mo the footage. I use the 720p24 easy setup and just log and capture. Since the camera flags the footage as to the framerate it is, if it was shot 23.98, it will be captured 23.98, if it encounters 59.94 footage, it captures it 59.94.
If you want to mix the 59.94 into the 23.98 sequence, just drop it into the cut and render. FCP does a good job converting the footage to 23.98. But sometimes not, so then I use the Standards Converter from nattress.com.
WHat is your project looking like?

February 9, 2006 at 5:11 pmSo your saying the fcp will automatically, on the fly, change the capture to whatever frame rate changes occur on the tape? I’m not actually doing a project yet but I want to be preparred.

February 9, 2006 at 8:54 pmThat is my experience. I have my project settings set to 720p24, and most of the footage I capture is 23.98, but when they shoot 59.94 it comes in at 59.94. When they shoot 29.97 (twice, by mistake) it comes in as 29.97.
