Ventilating a Dell E1720 laptop
Hello.
Yesterday I worked my poor little Dell E1720 laptop hard, browsing through photos. After about an hour the machine was so hot that it began not responding to some of my keystrokes. I shut it down for about a half an hour, and then it worked again, but Speedfan reported that temperatures inside the case were all much higher than normal; and it stayed warm all day. It is like the onboard fans just do not really do a very good job of ventilating the case.
I ran Dell diagnostics on it, and it reported that the fans were all working. I always keep it on a laptop cooling pad, but even with the extra airflow, I don’t think the onboard fans really do a good job of ventilating the whole case. It seems like once the machine gets hot, really the only way to cool it down is to shut it off for a while (or maybe to move to Antarctica).
My workstation vents good, especially after I replaced the side-panel cover with mesh, and added another fan to the back of the case. It seems to run cool no matter what. However, I would like to use my laptop for editing when I am away from home, but I am kind of scared to, because the thing just gets so warm/hot.
Is there any way to ventilate a Dell Inspiron E1720 chassis, so that it runs cool? Or is there a manufacturer whose laptops actually run cool, for when I eventually go to replace?
Thank you,
Norman
