    Hello,

I’m currently learning about timecodes and velocity in SVP12. Right now I’m doing a 1+ minute project based on a 3 minute clip. For about 57 seconds the clip is set to run at normal playback rate. At second 57 the clip is set to run at 4x speed for 17 seconds. After that the clip runs normally for 4 seconds.

During the period in which the clip is set to run at 4x speed I’m trying to speed up the timecode which is set to run across the whole clip. By doing this I hope to have the timecode running at normal speed from 00:00;00 to 00:57;00; then immediately speed up (matching the 4x clip) for the required 17 seconds (keeping up in time); finally ending with normal speed.

I tried using velocity envelopes to achieve this, but the speed of the timecode never changes.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Try rendering out your time code clip as a separate file. Use say a green solid colour from the media generator as background for your clip to apply the time code to then import back into your main project. Apply the chroma keyer to remove the green then use as an overlay track on your main project. You should then be able to adjust the velocity envelope. Not sure how the various speed variations will ‘line up’ with your main clip but it’s a start. Good luck.

That’s because you probably added the Timecode plug-in to the Event, but a Velocity Envelope speeds up the Media playback. Add the Timecode to the media as a Media FX and it will speed up with the velocity envelope like you want.

Nice John. Very short and simple. I muust admit I have never really managed to grasp the difference between adding effects to events and to the media. Maybe timecode fx is a good example.
    But thanks!

[Phil Peacock] ” I muust admit I have never really managed to grasp the difference between adding effects to events and to the media.”

The main difference is that adding FX to the media affects the media regardless of what event it is used in. That means that steps like color correcting should be done to the media so that no matter what event you use it on, the color is already correct.

[Phil Peacock] “Maybe timecode fx is a good example.”

The Timecode FX works like this: if you use it on media, it will use the timecode from the media. If you use it on events, the timecode will reset to zero at each event because it’s relative to the start of the event. If you use Timecode on a track, it will read out the timecode from the beginning of the project to the end.

Great example. Colour correction on a piece of media I can fully understand. Saves copy/pasting the fx to every event of that piece of media you place onto the timeline.
    Thanks John.
