so i’ve read that in many cases, when capturing hdv (this time with the scene dividing function on, whatever it’s called…) the timecode of each clip will start at zero. this seems to be the case with our m2t files.

i want to use mpeg streamclip to transform the m2t files into quicktimes fcp can use (probably prores codec). the problem is that mpeg streamclip doesn’t preserve timecode – i.e. everything starts at zero.

am i on drugs or does this little vegas glitch mean i can actually use mpeg streamclip and come up with the exact same timecode BECAUSE it will also start at zero? as long as all the frames are included, that is…

i need to bring an edl from vegas to fcp (what a headache! does anyone have automatic duck or something i could use to import aaf or xml or something vegas spits out into fcp? there could be payment to import something usable into fcp for me – seriously!)

but therefore i need to preserve the timecode when i transform the m2t’s so i can actually reconnect the media whenever i manage to bring a vegas edl into fcp (the next millenium…)

    thanks!!

There have been several posts of people trying to get Vegas projects into FCP and or Avid and I haven’t seen anyone with positive results yet. Danny Hays

Angela, did you ever try the script that Elvir posted in the import Vegas edl into FCP – ? thread that you started?

we just tried to use the script the other day – but couldn’t get it to work – probably because neither I or the other editor know anything about scripting. we followed the instructions and saved the script as a .vb file, exported the edl, and then tried to run the script, but when we were supposed to locate the script in the finder that opens up for you to locate the script, it wouldn’t appear. we would navigate to the folder where the script was saved in but it simply wouldn’t appear in the finder window – ? i have no idea.

looking at the script it also seems like you need to change some of the parameters inside of it, but again, i have no idea, really.

    have you tried it?

Sorry Angela but, as I have no need to export to FCP, I haven’t bothered with it.
Maybe if you reply to that thread, Elvir will see it and offer some suggestions.

“we followed the instructions and saved the script as a .vb file, exported the edl, and then tried to run the script, but when we were supposed to locate the script in the finder that opens up for you to locate the script, it wouldn’t appear.”

How did you save it with the new name?

Uncheck the “Hide Extensions” box in the Folder Options / View menu. I’ll bet that you renamed it to a .vb.txt file.

Open the file in notepad, then do a save as, but put the full name including the .vb in quotes. This will override the default .txt file type.
