    Hello
    32bit, 4Gb ram win7, intel(R) CoreTM i5 CPU 3.6Ghz, movie studio platinum suite vegas 12
in UK so PAL format mastering to HD 25p. Source data in AVCHD 50p format.
I’m having a real headache here and tried hours of reading blogs here and everywhere – help!

History – I set up a fairly big project to edit (8 streams of about 5mins long). Some small sections had the glow function on. This rendered fine in the past, …however my win7 OS had a blip, and having seemingly lost its restore points I somehow restored to the build set up and could not revert back ..arrgh! However I have re-installed all my programs and hopefully updates, codecs etc. but now while the project works fine in every aspect (play back/render etc) when it comes to render the small sections with glow it crashes, everytime. If I take the glow off it renders fine throughout.
    Error message when glow on:

Clearly there are a number of possible places where things could have gone wrong but the error using the glow module is very specific. I’ve tested it on a 10 sec clip on its own in a new project (very small file) and it still crashes. Could anyone throw a (glowing) light on a solution for me please? Thank you

OK so the more experienced users might go ‘D’oh!’ but I’ve sorted out the problem after checking out forums for memory problems rather than ‘Glow render problems’ (why did I forget to do that earlier!). I did the following:

    1) Turned down the Dynamic RAM Preview to free up memory. This can be done by clicking Options > Preferences > Video tab. Recommend setting of 64MB for standard definition projects and 100MB for high definition projects.

    2) Set the rendering threads to 2 (…what’s all that about?)

I had done 1) on its own with no success but it has rendered OK with both set as above. Hope this is useful to any one else that has this problem.

OK thing is I’ve no idea why it didn’t work previously other than maybe a RAM problem but there wasn’t that before I had to reinstalled vegas 12 (maybe I had set 1 & 2 above previously) but why didn’t the very small 10sec project render with glow on it, hardly overloading the RAM? Is glow very demanding on the CPU or something? ….and why are Vegas’ defaults so rubbish!? 🙂
Not critical anymore but curious and keen to improve my understanding.
    thanks
