  • VEGAS12 skipping/ignoring frames in video

    HI THERE!

im having a problem with vegas 12…ive been with vegas for many years but only worked with hd/full hd video.but now im doing something with 720×480(captured via s-video in mp4 format) and im having problems.basically vegas behaves as if some frames arent there even tho they are.so it skips like 5 or even more frames rendering the video very choppy.now this is not just a “preview window choppines and slowdown”….the frames really arent there(or at least they get ignored by vegas).if i move the cursor while paused frame-by-frame they arent there.and even when i render they arent there in the finished product…however the frames ARE there(if i play the video in an external video player in super slow motion i can see each frame that vegas ignores)

i tried matching the project to the video and all the usual most logical steps but nothing…however,i noticed that other random non-hd clips(not captured by me with this capture card) work fine as usual…no choppines ,no frame skipping…they run smooth even if the project is set to full hd with mismatched resolutions and framerates.now i know it feels like the issue might be in the footage/capture card itself and not vegas, however, the footage i capture is pristine on its own…only after i run it through vegas the problems arise…am i missing a plug-in or something?any ideas?

    PS:
the footage is captured with a happauge hdpvr2,via s-video to mp4 format(from machines such as dreamcast,playstation2 set to pal60 video mode)

thanks for any help….i appreciate it

The issue is caused by capturing using that happauge hdpvr2 via s-video!

yeah,i figured that much since other non hd mp4s work fine….but what can i do to fix it on the vegas end?the captured footage OBVIOUSLY has the frames that vegas is ignoring or not receiving…somewhere along the way they got lost in the shuffle(but they do exist).so what can i do to make vegas acknowledge them?
what are the reasons for these “incompatibilities” when such issues occur?

Sorry, i dont know of any solution exist for this issue where Vegas is concerned, otherwise from capturing with a different device or altering
the capture settings/options in your hdpvr2.

I experienced something like this in an mpeg-2 file. It was skipping random frames. The solution in that case was to right click on the event -> choose switches -> click on reduce interlace flicker. Also change smart resample to force resample on the same menu.

If that doesn’t work, the standard advice is to tell us what formats Mediainfo says the video and audio streams are using.

thanks,i tried what you suggested…but the problem persists.
huge segments of the video get skipped(even as much as two whole seconds but the audio keeps goin
normally and it kinda throws everything out of sync in a weird way)

As i told you earlier, there is no true solution in Vegas for this if you
continue using that particular capture device and/or settings as how you have it.

so youre saying this is a known issue with this particular capture card?
would there be any point in trying to convert the files into another format?(maybe it reencodes them in a different way that vegas can read properly)?or would that be just a waste of time?
