I was wondering if there is a basic guide line to follow in setting volume for a clip on the time line. Here’s how I have been doing it. On the time line when working with the audio tract, I leave it set at 0.0dB and never mess with it. I set the master control around -28 and leave it there.. I just use the volume envelope to adjust the volume up and down as needed for the clip so it doesn’t peak out into the red. What’s a better work flow to do my audio? Thanks so much.

I usually do it the other way: Leave the Master track alone and adjust the tracks individually with both the track header volume and the volume envelope. Definitely make sure nothing goes in the red. Generally speaking, I like to keep everything below -6

I always keep the audio as the last thing I tweak in the project.
For one thing, audio volume is cululative, so there’s no sense in adjusting audio on one track if there might be additional audio at the same time.

If I am mixing audio from multiple tracks and later decide that the mix volume is too high or low, I will adjust that from either the master audio track (B key toggles it on and off the interface), or send them to a bus.

I also apply the Track Compressor set to ‘Limit Levels to -6db’ at the track or project level (or both).
