Vegas version question
I have a Sony DCR HC30 Handy-cam and Pro Tools LE in Mac OS X 10.4.11 and I would like to make music videos with this set up by recording the video and audio separately and syncing it together. I have no experience in video editing and production but proficient in audio though. Which Vegas version will I need and will this camera work or do I need something more professional? I want to create videos primarily for church and U tube use. Any help is greatly appreciated.

So you should obviously go for the professional
version of Vegas…which is Sony Vegas Pro 8.0c

If Vegas Pro is within your budget then you can’t go wrong with that. If not, you’d be pleasantly surprised how much functionality is packed into the Vegas Movie Studio version. I would download the trail of both and see for yourself. They both have the exact same user interfaces and they both support your miniDV camera. Movie Studio is limited to 4 video and 4 audio tracks while Vegas Pro has unlimited tracks with more features. It’s really up to you to decide if you need the extra features or not.

Thanks Ron for the tip. But I understand Vegas is not Mac supported at all. Why is this?

Vegas was written for the PC platform, not the Mac platform.
If you’re running BootCamp on your Mac, you can run Vegas but that’s the only way. -

You can also use Fusion in the Mac to run Vegas in a VMware virtual machine on the desktop. It will not capture via firewire (you need to use BootCamp to do that) but everything else should work.
If you want to stay with just Mac OSX then Vegas is not for you.

If you got a Mac, then look at Final Cut Express. If you got the money, then Final Cut Pro (Studio 2).
