I have a clip that I am speeding up to 300% – at a certain point I want to stop it speeding and have it go at normal pace. When I splice the clip, it does not retain the same position – any idea how to get around this?

Instead of splitting the clip try using a VELOCITY ENVELOPE thru the clip. Set your POINT to 300% where you want it to start and then set another one to 300% where you want it to end. RIGHT next to it set another point to NORMAL or 100% and pull it directly below the 2nd point at 300%-the clip will now play at 300% until it reachs the next point then it will slow down to normal speed.
It’s a lot easier to so that then split the clip and trying to find the correct in-out points.

As Don said, I would just add a couple of points on the Velocity Envelope to slow it back down to normal.

What version of Vegas are you using? That is a known issue (splitting with a velocity Envelope changes the split point) that has been resolved. It appears it was fixed in the Vegas 7.0a release.
