    Hello again,
Here’s a question that perhaps you will be kind enough to answer:
An article in PC Magazine (March 22,2005 Issue) had the following, regarding saving projects: “…Sony Vegas 5.0 editing program there is a check box labeled ‘Copy and Trim Media With Project’ in the File/Save As dialog box. If you click on that box when you save your project, all the pieces that you’ve used in the project are ‘baled’ into a single file that you can save; then you can delete all the other files.”
    That’s what the article says.
Here’s my quandry: Say you have the following items in a finalized project: a) 1 hour captured video (of which you ended up using 10 minutes.) b) A short pre-rendered .avi file, somewhere in your HD. c) A few still photos, scattered in your HD. d) Several MP3 music files, scattered in your HD. and e) A couple of audio files, ripped from music CDs using Vegas, of which only a portion of the track was used.
The video is then edited, and created.
With that basic setup, I can understand the Copy and Trim concept would create a new file, (in fact I’ve done it) but I don’t quite understand what I can then “delete.” Can I then presumably delete the captured raw video file?? and does Vegas “save” again the other items already pre-existing in the HD, or merely has pointers to them? and what about the ripped CD audio? Where does that reside, and how does one “delete” the unused portion?
The overall question also is: In saving the project in this manner, does the new file include all the elements necessary to reconstruct it? (Suppose say the original photos were erased from the HD, will Vegas use its new file to still create the video?)
I hope that I’m making myself clear, and could use some help in understanding this useful feature.
    Many thanks,
    John

Generally speaking… you save to a NEW folder. Then you can delete everything NOT in that new folder.

I delete all the material that I thought I was going to use and then never used. It’s nice to be able to identify this quickly.
