Vegas / Sound Forge and Windows Media Player
I am Running Vegas 9 and Sound Forge 10 on 32 bit version of Win7 all sound is routed through an Echo Audio Sound Gina 24 sound card. Audio on the web, fine. Audio on Vegas & Sound Forge, all good. Audio playing simultainously on all 3 fine. However if I introduce a an audio file on WMP the audio on Vegas audio slows in pitch. If I actually play the file on WMP the audio on Vegas gets bumped until I close WMPlayer. Besides avoiding WMP is there a way to lock a sample rate on Vegas for everything to play nice? Or should I find a Win 7 forum?

If I understand this, you are playing audio in four different applications simultaneously, and one of the applications is being slowed down. You may also be viewing video in Vegas to add to the mix. It sounds like your CPU may be reaching its limit.

Bob, thanks for the response. The CPU could be the culprit and I am looking into an upgrade. It’s an Intel Core 2 6300 @1.86 GHz. 3.2 GB usable RAM Win 7-32 bit os.
I’m sorry I was not more clear in my post. I never really run 3 or 4 files simultaneously in my daily routine however to find the problem that was my test. To be clear I never have problem until Window Media Player is introduced.
I might be running one small .wav file in vegas (or Sound Forge) and accidentally open the smallest of wavs through WMP and the problem occurs.
It appears that as soon as WMP is opened it wants to change the system bit or sample rates and that really screws with my system. It actually knocks Sony’s audio setting offline until I close WMP and reset the Sony Audio preference tab.
For now I can avoid problems and keep the peace by staying well clear WMP while running any program. However it would be nice to solve the issue.

I have not tested what happens when WMP is running with Vegas, but I suspect WMP would not affect Vegas on my system. I am using a M-Audio ProFire 610 in Vegas and Sound Forge. The 610 passes the output audio to the inputs of my system’s 5.1 sound card which allows me to hear the audio. WMP deals only with the 5.1 sound card and should not disrupt what Sound Forge/Vegas are doing.
