  • Vegas renders darker than appears in preview.

Posted by Paul Hildebrandt on September 22, 2008 at 3:42 pm

I am having a problem with Vegas that whenever i render my project it appears darker than it should. But looks how i want in the vegas preview window pre-render.

The video files being used are NTSC DV, project type is set correctly to match those settings, and i am rendering back out to NTSC DV, if i print the image to tape it is also darker on TV but i expect this due to difference in monitors. But i figure it should be same on the computer between the preview window and the final project.

Would appreciate any help. Thank you.

What video player are you using to play back the rendered video. If you drop it into a Vegas project and preview it does it still appear darker?

Using windows media player, default color settings. I have not tested putting it back into Vegas, i’ll have to try that when i get home. But for example if i import the rendered file into photoshop for rotoscoping, it looks very dark as well, as it does in windows media player.

Alright i tested the issue and when i re-import back into Vegas it does not look dark. But it does look darker in media player, and even darker in photoshop.

I am having the same problem. I’ve never had an issue with the darkness before but the project I am working on now is rendering the same way. I have two projects (1) is 1440 1080 24p and (2)1440 1080 30p. They both come out in WMP about one click low on the brighness. I am running a Dell Ultra Sharp 24″ at home when previewing in Vegas.
Anyone else other than us having this problem?
    Thanks.

I’m having the exact same problem as well. I’d like to find a solution for this soon! I didn’t seem to have the problem when I was using Sony Vegas 8, but unfortunately I had to go back to using Vegas 7 since version 8 wasn’t compatible with the video format my new camera uses.
