    Hi all !

This is not a question but more of a buyer beware thing.

Now, I’ve been using Vegas since V 3 when it was still Soundforge. Over the years, I have regularly upgraded versions via Sony‘s website and recently to V16 via Magix‘s online store. I have never come across this before.

Most, if not all of you have had that pop-up from Magix upon opening Vegas that tells you that an upgrade or special offer is available. I chose to do just that, as I did before.

The big difference this time is that since I am located in Canada (as I have always been) the total amount was in dollars, as it was previously but this time, when I got my credit card bill, Magix had applied the US exchange rate. Now, I can ear you say : ”Didn’t you look at the final numbers on the invoice page?” Yup. I did, as I usually do, and nothing looked out of place. Since now like most of you, I buy stuff from around the world, I tend to look out for that.

There are 20 or so countries that use the name dollar for their currency ( not counting the one’s that use the US dollar).

My advice to you is to e-mail Magix before purchasing in order to confirm the price in your currency because there is no mention on the purchasing site (as of today) regarding which currency is being used. It use to be there, but not anymore. I don’t know about the non dollar currencies but don’t take any chances.

I learned the hard way. Magix has been un-sympathetic.

    Cheers !

Francois, Thank You for providing your experience. I’m in the US so it doesn’t effect me, but I’m sure it will be valuable to others. Can you tell us what the difference was?

    Best Regards……George

    Hi George

It was roughly a 70$ difference. Not crazy but annoying.

    Cheers !

    Hello Frances
Even though it will be too late to react, viz. annulation the purchase of your software purchase, but for everybody’s information:
Magix is an enterprise located in Germany europen Community. They are obliged to refund your money provide you send them by mail or letter or fax
Unfortunately you can only do this within two weeks after purchase.
Hereby, I revoke the treaty concluded by me on the purchase of the following goods: here you should inform about date, amount of money and that they used the wrong currency viz. US dollar instead of Cnd$

And if this doesn’t work or its too late
Write them a mail/better is a letter to following address
There I would mention that you have informed COW’s about your experience and this is poor publicity.
For your info: Magix Software GMBH very
    Customcare
    Borsigstr. 24 D 32312 Lübbecke
    Germany /Europe

Hope this can be of some help for you and/or other customers.
But don’t make the mistake to transfer this impressionto the Vegas Pro software I use it already sinc 2011 (SVP 9 over SVP12 later VP 14 and now I start “struggling” with VP16. However upto now its a good Upgrade!!!

Hope you have not lost your trust in..

    Hi Robert

I think you got me wrong. I do not wish to cancel my order. I am quite happy with the product. My goal was to point out that there was a shortcoming in the Magix‘s website regarding purchases that could easely be fixed and until that happens, let others know about that particular shortcoming and act accordingly. It’s not a software problem but a marketing one.

As I mentioned in my original post, there are at least 20 or so countries with the dollar as the name of their currency excluding the american dollar (Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Liberia, New Zealand, etc…) It’s not that hard to add the countries symbol in front of the $ sign. ( US$, C$, A$, NZ$, etc…)

It is a global world after all.

    Cheers !

Francois, to me the Vegas Pro product pages, e.g.
    https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/ca/vegas-pro/
    https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/au/vegas-pro/
show the prices in C$ and A$ respectively.

Too bad if it changes in the ordering process.

The selectable areas are here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/

Btw, by “using Vegas since V 3 when it was still Soundforge” did you mean “still from Sonic Foundry”?

    Hi Jorma

That’s what threw me off. For some reason what I was looking at in the first pages didn’t carry over to the billing page… and yes, I did mean Sonic Foundry. My bad. I had just finished working with Soundforge from Sonic Foundry. I still have a pretty good library of music and sound effects from back then,

    Cheers !

    Hi Frances
Good to know, since I believe VP16 has made a jump in quality. However, I would- in your case- write them a mail or letter, complaining about this unprofessional attitude.
Its not “my business”, however they should have also feedback.
    best regards
    Rob
