Vegas Pro – trying to render higher than 26 Mbps for “60” fps 1920×1080
Hi All!
I just bought Vegas 14, but have not installed it. On VP 12 and VP 13, the highest bit rate I can choose for 60 fps for Sony AVC is ~ 26 Mbps. None of the other render options will let me go as high when I combine 60 fps with 1920×1080.
Now I know there is much, much discussion about YouTube dumbing-down high bit-rate uploads, doesnt do any good to render at higher rates, yada yada. But I’ve been communicating with several people in Germany who insist, and their videos show it, that rendering at crazy high rates in the 60-100 Mbps range produces better YouTube results. One of these people is using Magix Pro X, a product I’m not familiar with.
I’m shooting at either AVCHD 2.0 28.0 Mbps, or 50 Mbps IPB with my Panny GH3, both 60 fps . If I upload the raw footage, in both cases the results on YT are better than my best efforts with VP 12 or 13.
This link from Youtube on Recommended upload encoding settings also indicates that much higher bit rates are supported, albeit for 4K or 2K. BUT – the people in Germany are not uploading 2K or 4K at the high rates, it is good old 1080 but looks lots better than my rendered footage, similar to what I get with my raw uploads.

Also selecting MainConcept AVC (instead of Sony AVC) would let you use much higher bit rates.

When I try Main Concept AVC , the higher rates at 60 fps won’t work with 1920×1080, they only seem to work with 1280×720, and the XAVC won’t let me pick a rate.
I’m not at my vidro workstation right now, will double check later. Thanks!

That said, doing the H.264 render via HandBrake would allow you to use much lower bit rates at much better quality as either Sony AVC or MainConcept AVC would do.
If you don’t yet use a Magix branded version of Vegas Pro and not yet the latest version of HandBrake you could try to use my https://www.vegasvideo.de/vegas-2-handbrake-en“>Vegas2HandBrake workflow which allows to send the Vegas timeline to HandBrake with only one mouse-klick.

This usually depends on the preset you start from. Try modifying one of the given internet presets as a start point. I used MainConcept AVC with bitrates up to 100 Mbit/s. Though meanwhile I use Vegas2HandBrake instead (see my last post).

With high bit rates and 60p encoded into a normal AVC/.264 format, you need to select the High Profile. With MC AVC encoder, I would try the variable bit rate mode with your Average at 25Mbs, and the peak at 50mbs. The final will most likely not peak to 50mbs, and uploading a 25mbs bit rate allows YouTube to throw away some image info when it compresses down to 12Mbs.
Xavc is really just a higher profile (5) than normal AVC/.264 High profile(4).
