Here are my specs to get those out of the way

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
    Q6600 Quad Core
    8 gigs of Corsair Memory
    2x 9800gtx gpus
    3 terabytes of space

Ok. So here is an issue Ive been having with Vegas Pro 9.0e, and since Sony has really awful customer service for the amount of money you give them, I thought I would finally try getting some tips here.

Ive been building short videos consisting of 5D mark II .movs about 5 to 7 minutes in length. Usually, when I get to about 3 to 5 minutes, the preview screen blacks out and I when I go to render in .m2t, particularly as HDV 1080-60i, I get the “system is low on memory blah blah” message.

To get around this annoying problem, I have been putting together videos in 2 to 3 minutes pieces, pressing the lightning bolt consistently, and then combining the sectioned .m2ts together to render out a full piece in .m2t.

This seems to be a media bin problem, because when its packed with .movs, i get this problem. I hate the media bin anyways, I just use explorer. I have tried changing ram preview to zero among many of the other randomly suggested fixes out there on the net with zero success. I am hoping someone knows how to get Vegas to act “Pro” like it suggests in the title of the software, because I may just drop Sony and invest in a different suite if it persists.

Any suggestions on how I can render out my projects without having to section them off?? When I start making larger projects in the 30 min realm, I would like some pro consistency, and to be able to render them out in one shot.

    Hi,

I (only) have a 7D and was faced to the same problem. Everything has been fixed for me when I bought Cineform Neoscene: this software converts your Canon MOV files to AVI. Canon MOV files are known to have problems with Vegas. Also, they are compressed quite a lot, which involves a lot of CPU to decompress them and handle them in any tool like Vegas.

    Neoscene is about 100$.

Alternatively, you may try ZoomBrowserEX, which is normally provided with your camera in the Canon utilities. This tool has a utility to convert MOV files to AVI as well. However, it looks like for me, it converts the files to 15 fps AVIs (while my MOVs are 25fps), which is definitely not what I want.

I am also rendering to m2t, and in the last 2 months (during which I used Neoscene), I believe I never had a crash any more.

And btw, I share your opinion about the Sony support… But I am quite enthusiastic about using Vegas (the Movie Studio Platinum version). I really like this tool (but was angry like you before using Neoscene).

    Hope this helps,
    Frederic

Thank you Frederic for the quick response!!

Indeed, I am a little exhausted with Sony, but like you, I really love using Sony Vegas, and would prefer it over any others. I will make the leap and invest in Cineform: Neoscene, because after going to the website and reading about it, it looks like it is indeed the solution to this particular problem. Again I really appreciate the quick response. I’ll post later my results with Neoscene for others who might be looking to fix the same issue.

    Luvio,

Frederic is right. NeoScene should cure this.
