    Hi guys,

I’m having a pretty big problem. I’m working on an editing project in 720p with more than 100 different video files. It worked fine, but when I imported another 15 video files, Vegas started to freeze when I want to start editing. Sometimes I get a message from Windows saying that the program doesn’t respond anymore, sometimes I get one from Vegas with the following details:

It doesn’t really matter what I’m doing when it crashes. Sometimes I’m just clicking on a file, sometimes I press play and it starts playing but it crashes after a few seconds. My only explenation is that my system isn’t capable of handeling so many files, but I have a Quad Core and 4 GB RAM so it would surprise me. Also, I tried running the file as an admin and closing as many other programs that are active at the moment, but it doesn’t seem to help.

I hope you guys can help me out because I’m clueless and I’ve been working on it for a long time. Thanks in advance!

    Hi

I am no expert but I’ve seen quite a number of times where folks have said that 9e version is the answer and that 9d had issues. It’s a freebie, so why not upgrade to 9e. It would appear that you have nothing to lose and it may be the solution…just saying.

Sounds like you are running out of resources. Vegas isn’t crashing, Windows is crashing when you are running Vegas.

How much disk space do you have set aside as Virtual Memory? You might try increasing that *and* make it static. (https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2267427).

Also, you should be using at least two hard-disks. One for the O/S and one for the video media.

I had 3600 MB virtual memory and I changed it to 8000. Also, I downloaded Vegas 9.0e, but my problem remains exactly the same.

Is it very likely that using only one hard disk is the origin of the problem? If that’s the case, I’ll have to buy another one. Anyway, thanks for the advice!

“I had 3600 MB virtual memory and I changed it to 8000.”

On the advice of a lot of Vegas users more computer-savvy than me, I let Windows manage my memory.

“Is it very likely that using only one hard disk is the origin of the problem?”

    It most definitely is.
With drive prices so cheap these days, it makes no sense to not be running at least a 2 disk system.
    I personally run a 3-disk set-up.
Drive C is for programs only.
Drive D is for all captured files and associated source material.
Drive E is for my completed renders.

I tried running it again and this time, it seemed like the increasement of virtual memory actually helped. Now I was able to work for a few minutes before it crashed. The only problem then was that most video fragments I played on the timeline just showed a screenshot of it. I could here the sound, but not see the video.

I’ll try buying another hard drive to solve the problem completely, I’ll let you know if it worked. Thanks for the help!

    Hey guys,

    Update: It works again!

Putting the videofiles on an external hard drive didn’t help, but it did help to make a back-up of all my files, format my entire pc and reinstall Windows. Apperently, that was the only solution.

    Appreciate the help though.
