  • Vegas Pro 9.0 stuttering only in project, but renders OK

Posted by Ernesto Marani on August 15, 2009 at 7:26 pm

    Hi,

I work with Vegas Pro 9.0 and a funny thing happens: During my work in the timeline, the clips’ audio stutter (video image reproduces fine). But when I render the movie, the audio doesn’t stutter at all. It’s perfect quality. Why is this happening?

    Thanks
    Ernesto

    Hi everybody,
In my question I said the audio stutters but the video reproduces fine.
I was wrong: video also stutters, as if one was jumping frames.
And all this causes of course a sync problem between video and audio.
In any case, when I render the project, THERE IS NO STUTTER AT ALL, and video and audio are perfectly synchronized.

    Thanks
    Ernesto

Could be your processor and/or RAM. My 1.6GhZ with 2GB RAM notebook is awful, but my 2.5GhZ with 4GB RAM is very smooth. Could also be video card issues?

There are only 10 kinds of people in the world. Those who get binary math, and those who don’t.

I am having a terrible time with my video stuttering when I place it in the timeline, but it plays fine in the preview or trimmer. I even have a project i completeed sometime ago that i recebtly re-opend for some final edits and it will not play smoothly in the timeline and will not render smoothly. any suggestions?

Ernesto & Paul, neither of you have said what kind of footage you’re using (DV-AVI, HDV, AVCHD) nor given us any information about your computer set up.
What has been recommended here numerous times is to ensure that your project properties match your source footage.
To do this, open your Project Properties tab (File – Properties), click on the Match Media Settings icon (looks like a folder), browse to the folder containing your source footage, click on one of them and click Open.
Your Project Properties will now match your source footage.
Set your Preview window to Preview/Auto (or even lower if necessary, depending on your CPU).
Make sure your footage is not on drive C as this is never a good idea.
Hard drives are so cheap these days that a second drive (even an external) is mandatory for editing.

I have the same problem (renders fine but project stutters) — match media settings doesn’t help.

I’m using HD files from a Canon HF S11 — files are AVCHD, 1920x1080x2, 29.970 fps.

Computer is an ASUS G71x with Q9000 processor(quad processor with 2ghz per cpu), 6GB memory, NVida GTX260m video card, & dual internal drives (sofware on one, project on the other).

It is really annoying because I can’t tell what is happening w/ the transitions (sometimes stutters right through them). I’m new to Sony Vegas Pro … so, not sure if I should be looking at something else.
