Ok so I have been trying to mask a flying pigeon in a 5 seconds long clip. It’s a pain to do it as I have to keyframe pretty much every single frame. What happens is after I keyframe 30-40 frames Sony Vegas crashes.
I used to run it on Windows 7 and kernelbase.dll was mentioned in the crash report.

    • I tried saving to a different project. I got the same crash.
    • I tried reinstalling Vegas, same crash, same error report.
    • I tried switching to Windows XP since it does not have any file named kernelbase.dll and it still crashed returning an error report that mentions kernel32.dll .
    • I tried editing an entirely different version of the source material(first try was with a longer SD clip, second try was with a shorter HD clip) and I worked on the first 30-35 frames without any problems and then it started crashing every 2 seconds.

I literally just open the project, click once and it crashes.

This is the error report I currently get :

    Problem Description
    Application Name: Vegas Pro
Application Version: Version 9.0c (Build 896)
    Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xccccffff)
    Fault Module: C:\WINDOWS\system32\kernel32.dll
    Fault Address: 0x7C81EB33
    Fault Offset: 0x0001EB33

    Fault Process Details
    Process Path: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 9.0\vegas90.exe
Process Version: Version 9.0c (Build 896)
    Process Description: Vegas Pro
Process Image Date: 2009-10-26 (Mon Oct 26) 07:41:04

At the time of this post the same crashed never happened on any other projects.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it at all possible to make mask from a difference to the background? Making a garbage mask?

    Grazie

I just tried giving the project file and the source media to a friend of mine who has a completely different configuration than I do and it crashed on his PC as well.
So I think it’s gotta be either the media file that causes the problem or something about the keyframes themselves(maybe so many keyframes over such a short timespan I honestly don’t know).

I think I got it. Because I wanted a lot of detail in the mask I created a lot of anchors. Thing is if I just move the anchors around everything is ok, but when I use the split tangent tool it crashes. So I tried deleting a previously made anchor and then using the split tangent tool and it didn’t crash. But when I tried adding another anchor it crashed again. As long as I keep deleting anchors and creating new ones it does not crash.
Does Vegas have an anchor cap for the masks or what?
