    Howdy All,

    This is my first post/question(s).

I’ve read much about the challenges of creating a Blu-Ray Video disc created from AVCHD source files.

    I’m not asking how it’s done, but isn’t this a typical workflow ??? …

    1) For speeding editing: Create 1 proxy file, say AVI format, for each AVCHD file.
    2) Load these on the Vegas Pro timeline.
    3) Do whatever one does in Vegas Pro
    4) Re-point the timeline to the appropriate original AVCHD files.
    5) Render timeline to files needed for burning to a Blu-Ray video disc.
    6) Burn these files to disc using a Blu-Ray authoring program.

Am I missing something here ?
If not, why does everyone gripe about AVCHD files ?

Many thanks in advance from Toronto,

    Dean

It’s typical only if you plan to use proxies to edit.

    > Am I missing something here ?

No you are not missing any steps but if you have lots of AVCHD files it may become very tedious to render all of those proxies and to swap back and forth between them and the original AVCHD footage without a utility like VASST GearShift to help you.

    > If not, why does everyone gripe about AVCHD files ?

Because they don’t want to spend the time making proxies. They want to edit the native footage.

JR answered it more completely, but the proxy workflow is only important if you have a slower machine. If you’ve got a quad that is well-configured, you shouldn’t need to make proxies. There are some advantages to proxies, too…and if you’re doing layering, you’ll definitely want to look at proxies as an option.

    Douglas and John,
You guys are great… maybe in 15 years I might be able to help out too… thanks

    Douglas…
Can I purchase your book “Vegas Pro 8 Editing Workshop” directly from you?
My local Toronto book store wants $65 to order, and Amazon.ca charges $40. Not that I can’t afford… I’d rather put bucks directly in your pocket.
