April 6, 2009 at 6:01 pmI can resize it to what I need but the way I need to move it is by grabbing a side of the box in the crop/event. If I close the box to make it smaller then the logo gets bigger.
The way I move it to the lower part of the screen is by grabbing the top line of the box and move it up. By doing this the logo moves down.
Now I want to move the logo to the right so it will be at the bottom right hand side of the screen.
I grab the side of the box and it moves it from the center of the screen and then the logo disappears.
I know that there must be a way to simply size it the right size then grab the logo and place it to the bottom right hand side of the screen. This must be done in the crop/event tool but I can not click on the logo and make it move.
Very difficult to explain through messaging.
Do you have a simple step by step instruction such as,
Import logo onto the top video line.
Click on the event/crop icon
With event/crop window open move ?? to re-size logo.
Once re-sized, ?? click on the logo inside the event/crop window.
Move the logo to the location you want.
Click on red X at top right side of event/crop window to exit window.
Logo now should be placed in the location you selected when working in the event/crop window.
If you want logo to remain on video from start to finish you drag logo to the right to increase its time.
You can also apply fade in and out so the logo will slowing appear and at the end you can fade out so it slowing disappears.

April 6, 2009 at 7:12 pmTry using Track Motion instead of Pan/Crop. This makes logo placement a lot easier. You can find the track motion button in the track header on the left of the timeline. It will do exactly what you want (resize/reposition etc.).

April 6, 2009 at 9:47 pmHave completely no idea how to make the control track work. I put the cursor over each one and the only thing that does something is the slide. It will go from 0 to 100 percent.
There is no other tools that will resize the logo. So I went back into crop/pan and made the logo smaller again.
Then I placed it on the video track and played around with each icon on the place you mentioned. Nothing changed accept you can make the track bigger or smaller.
The hard part is that you are very advanced and I am just beginning so even referring to go here or there is difficult because I go into the help section to learn where the tools can be found.
I really need a step by step instructions because I’m confident that the way you describe it works but I can’t do things without knowing to left or right click onto something or what each thing is called.

It’s difficult to give you a step by step without graphics to see what I’m doing but I’ll try.
- Drop your logo on an empty track
- Click the Track Motion button in the track header. (it’s the 2nd button after the track name)
- In the Track Motion window, click on a corner and drag it to resize the logo to the size you want.
- Click anywhere in the rectangle that represents the video and drag it to move the logo to the location you want on the video.
- Close Track Motion
That’s really all there is to it.

April 7, 2009 at 7:37 pmI checked the track area on the left side and it doesn’t have the track motion in there. I checked the help section trying to figure out how to get it to place it in there but can not find any help with it.
All I have showing is the top left corner is the minimize and maximize buttongs. Going to the right, it has the button with 1 on it. The audio below has number 2 and number 3 in the section below for the next video line then number 4 for the audio level and it continues with numbers going up in order.
The logo is on video track line one. When I put the cursor over the number one tab it shows the name I named it.
Continuing to the right, that is where what you are talking about should be but it’s not. What is there is the track fx then automation settings then mute and the last one is solo.
Below these icons it starts on the left with the slide control to control the level between 0 to 100 percent. Then continually to the right is the compositing mode then is the arrow pointing up for making compositing parent and the last icon is the arrow pointing down that says make composite child.
It is very difficult without the use of graphics with description but I will try different things. If you have anything else that could help please let me know.
Thank you,
Bill

How about a graphic?
If you don’t have this button are you sure you are using Vegas Pro 8.0 and not Movie Studio?

April 8, 2009 at 2:36 amJohn, I have everything accept the space for typing in the name and those two icons. So I went to read more about it again and how to expand the video track by pulling it down.
I thought if I can expand it by pulling it down then I would try to expand it vertically. Well I did that and there it was. I can now put the name of the clip in it and place the logo right onto the video.
What a terrific and very quick thing to do. Of course I can fade it in and out and also decide how transparent I want it to be.
Very excited to be able to finally do it. I thought you might have given up on trying to help since it seemed I wasn’t getting anywhere with it.
Thank you so much for staying with me on it. I is a very cool and easy feature to use. Now I can try laying over a mask, making the right level of transparency and typing in the name of a person.
I still don’t know what all of those information things are in the box when applying transitions but that will be for the next time. For now I just drag and drop and since it doesn’t have something that says apply I just click on the X and it works. I know it must have more than that such as controlling the transition time, etc..
When I use a flash transition I can’t find different colors to make it so I just go with the white it gives. What we did in analog editing is we would put in 8 frames or so of black or white and then let it render and it would create the look of not a jump cut but let the viewers know that the less relevant parts in an interview where removed. It’s the standard for most news stations.
Thank you, John.

Flashes are like most other FXs in Vegas and can be customized to your heart’s content 🙂
Don’t close the window after it pops up and accept the default settings.
Click anywhere in the colour palette to change the default white to another colour.
You can also separately adjust the diffusion values.
When you get it the way you want, it can be saved as a preset for future use by clicking in the Preset box at the top of this window, giving it a new name and clicking the Save icon (looks like a floppy disc).
This procedure applies to almost any FX that Vegas has. -

April 8, 2009 at 1:57 pmThank you Mike for the information. There is also a time line at the bottom and don’t know what that’s for. It seems that everything must do things. I thought the time line was a way of setting the length of transition but have no idea how to get it to work.
The nice thing that I have noticed is that once I learn something about Vegas Pro 8, most everything else works the same.

April 8, 2009 at 2:05 pmBill, the timeline at the bottom is used for keyframing.
In a nutshell, it allows you to modify an effect (or numerous other things such as Pan/Crop, Track Motion, etc.) over time.
For example, if you wanted a line of text to increase in size from 36 to 60, for example) during the time it’s on screen, you would use keyframes to do it.
Create one keyfrmae at the beginning of the event for 36 and another one at the end for 60.
When the event is played, you’ll see the text grow over time.
Using keyframes will add a whole new dimension to your project.
The online help in Vegas as well as the manual are excellent starting points to learn more aabout this tool.
