    Greetings,

I’m a student worker at a University and I’m editing 30 student interviews that I shot during the spring semester. It’s been a learning experience to say the least.

I’m having an issue with the “spin” transition in vegas pro 8. Initially everything was working great. I simply dropped the transition between two clips (that had no overlap) and it did everything automatically. It automatically did the overlap and the transition looked great.

Now I’m encountering an issue with other projects that when I drop the transition in, nothing happens. I need to go in and manually do the overlap before dropping the transition in to get the desired. I can certainly do the overlap manually, but with 30 projects(and 100+ transitions) to get through, having it work automatically throughout would have saved me a lot of time. I’m also using multicamera editing which complicates things a bit further.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone might know why the transition is working automatically when I drop it between two flushed clips sometimes, and not working other times. The original media has plenty of footage for the function to access, so I don’t expect it’s an issue of not having the excess footage to use.

Love the forum, thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

What you can do (and what you probably did before) is to have the clips overlap automaticly when you drop them on the timeline. (OPTIONS_PREFERENCES-EDITING tab-and activate AUTOMATICALLY OVERLAP etc.

Once the clips are on the timeline, you can still do the overlap automatically with scripts like Excalibur or Ultimate S. I don’t know whether there are also free scripts to do this for you.

Thank you for the reply, Theo.

Overlap automatically wasn’t selected in the editing section. I did select it for future reference.

What’s really vexing is that within the same video project, it will work for some joints and not for others.

So, lets say I have 5 clips that are all snapped together with no overlap or transitions. I drop the spin transition between the 1st and 2nd clip, and it automatically does the overlap and looks great. I’ll move onto the splice between clips 2 and 3, drop the transition in, and nothing happens. Not until I go and manually do the overlap, which has created some potential audio and consistency issues, will it allow the transition to function properly.

I know my boss has a copy of excalibur somewhere. I will try and get that installed tomorrow.

Thanks again for the reply, sir.
