I am running both Pro 8.0c and 9.0c, and I just captured an m2t HDV file (1440×1080 60i) using version 9. The computer is slow and limited by today’s standards, but has been reasonably workable. I have been thinking that Pro 9 seems slower than Pro 8, so I decided to run a test. I placed an m2t file on the time line, and watched the fps in preview(auto) mode in both versions. Pro 9 ran the video at about 3.2fps while Pro 8, for the same section of the video, ran at about 8fps. It seems that Pro 8 is significantly faster than Pro 9. Other than more bloating in the new version, any ideas about what might cause this?

Interesting, I just built a new quad core system and was comparing it with a dual core system in encoding times, now I have another test to try. Thanks!

I’d open the task manager and watch the processors and memory marks to see what they are doing while encoding.

“…and watched the fps in preview(auto) mode in both versions.”

In Pro 9, did you disable the Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback feature?
It’s one of the many new features of it that some of us really don’t care for.
This particular one is found by right-clicking in the Preview window.

Yes, absolutely! I was surprised that it made very little difference in the fps speed. That was one thing I almost forgot to do, but my final observations were made after it was invoked.
