The project I am currently working on has MPEG files from a sony Hard Drive Camera, .AVI files from a Cannon as well as a couple of JPEG’s (which I have reduced the size to about 400, and WAV files from a couple of songs ripped from a CD (with permission). In total, probably near 80 thumbnails (though I have swithed to list view). With that said, the application is crashing/showing error messages after adding two or three files into the timeline. Sometimes, I can not even get that far. I am currently using Visa OS and have a Dual Core Proc with 2 Gigs of ram. I have tried to shut down everything but Vegas (including McAfee), but nothing is working. The program seems extremely unstable, but I have never had problems with Vegas before (although this is the first project using Vegas Pro 8.0b. Any suggestions?
However, do to a deadline, I had to try something, so I have downloaded the 30 day trial of the Sony Movie studio, with hopes that I could copy and paste…it worked. Though I am very limited in what I can do with Movie Studio, it has not crashed and I have been able to go forward with the project (with limited capabilities). With that said, I look forward to Pro 8.0c and hope that it takes care of the memory/crashing problem.

First I’d chack the Jpegs for a corrupted one. Vegas actually pefers PNG files. If I’m doing a Ken Burns effect (pan/crop motion) I’ll set the size at 1440 x 960.

Sounds to me like you may have a bad JPG file in there.

I had the same problem with vegas pro 8.0b. I was using mpeg files from a sony minidvd handycam. I think the problem is something with vegas. I have tried alot of different things but could never fix the problem. I have read where alot of other people have had the same problems. What I did was downloaded the free trial of sony vegas movie studio platinum and I did not have the problem again and could render my full video. It is kind of a pain when you have worked hard on a project and put alot of time in it and it crashes on you. I had the same problem with vegas bogging down my memory all the sudden and I had plenty of memory to spare. Maybe they will get the bugs worked out of it.

I have had precisely these problems and have had to buy a copy of Movie studio in order to be able to finish projects. Why do so many people enthuse about Pro 8 when it is so bug-laden, in fact virtually unusable.

I have also found a problem with Movie Studio. After project is rendered and burned to disc there are often green flashes between scenes where there should be a direct cut. The green frames do not show up in the timeline. Any ideas gratefully received.
