I have been following the tutorials posted – and with regard to the tutorial ‘Particle Illusion and VEGAS Pro: Driving Emitters with Mocha Tracking” I have a question in relation to casting light spill and/or shadows.
The one thing I noticed about the fireworks is that there is no reflection of the light from the explosions in the water or on the buildings in the image. I know the purpose of the tutorial to to explain how PI works – but I am trying to add some realism to it. One item that would make it more real is when the firework explodes, if there was some way to have some of the light reflected from the water surface. The same applies to potential reflection of the firework colour from the surrounding buildings.
I have looked through all the filters and effects but cannot see how this might be done – is this even possible with something like BCC?
That’s advanced stuff… I’m not a Vegas pro so don’t know if all of this is possible, but…
For water reflection I’d duplicate the PI layer, apply to a 3D layer that’s aligned with the water, or warp the layer to match the perspective of reflection on the water. Then ripples or noise, reduce opacity, change transfer modes, etc. Possibly some masking too.
For lighting on buildings it’s masking, then adjustments like brightness, color, etc.
There’s no simple filter to do any of that — it’s all work.
