Vegas Pro 11/12 and new GPU drivers install tip
I guess this is common place here, but anyways… one thing you should try after updating GPU drivers is resetting Vegas to default (CTRL+SHIFT while starting) then disable GPU, restart computer, open Vegas in the default mode you just set and then re-enable the GPU acceleration, restart the software and you’re good to test your new drivers as they should. The reason behind this is that Vegas Pro 11/12 registry keys tend to point to old drivers’ flags instead of new ones from time to time, so it doesn’t hurt to clean the house a bit after installing new drivers and make sure Vegas is using every feature added/fixed.
Also re-install latest DirectX end user redist. after every drivers upgrade or re-roll, I know it sounds stupid, but let’s be honest, Windows is (sometimes) stupid.

There is also a folder at:
C:\Users\[account]\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\12.0\
that you should delete and allow Vegas to recreate. It contains a lot of cached information that Vegas should re-discover when a new version is installed or drivers are updated.

thanks John, yes that folder is the first thing to delete, I’m baffled we are in 2013 (cars should be flying by now, movies told me) and drivers are still so bad at “house keeping”, the amount of garbage Windows gathers as new drivers/software builds keep coming is unbelievable, to the point I usually perform a fresh Windows back-up install from a fast USB 3.0 device before upgrading GPU drivers / software build…
…yes I’m that paranoid, I have a degree on Computing Arts and I know first hand we believe we’re running “clean” operating systems when in fact after a couple of weeks they are a bunch of registry keys pointing to broken links, dll’s in wrong places, .NET Framework failing to updating software to latest compile standards… I miss being ignorant about all this.

Yea, that’s one of the reason’s in moved to Mac. There is no registry that collects broken links and gets slower and slower over time. Windows is a poor design and always will be unless they finally get rid of the registry.
