Vegas Pro 11 update out
Posted by Angelo Mike on November 8, 2011 at 3:13 am…and it’s still turning all my footage from the correct 1.33 aspect ratio to 1. Vegas 10 doesn’t have this problem. I uninstalled versions 9, 10, and 11 (AGAIN), restarted my computer, and installed 11 with the update to see if it helped, since Sony sent me a link to the Vegas 11 update as responses to my complaints about Vegas making my footage into the incorrect aspect ratio until I changed each piece of media individually, but it still does the same thing.
Is there any way to get Vegas 11 to stop doing this?
Edit: And I tried uninstalling all versions of Vegas/reinstalling Vegas 11 because I’m getting an avi.dll error every time I open a project, so I can’t work.

November 8, 2011 at 5:28 am11 evidently has some bugs to work out. Today I booted my computer, ran the 32 bit version to work on some audio. The project loaded up fine but when I hit the space bar to play, an error message popped up and said that “Sony Vegas has quit working and will close”. I started Vegas again, opened up the same project and the same thing happened again when I hit play. Upon starting Vegas the third time and opening the same project…I worked on the project without any problems.
I was lucky for about a week without problems…but the gremlins have invaded.

November 8, 2011 at 7:41 amOften times im still at a loss as to why, why
everyone has a different experience using the exact same software.
I know given the fact that everyone’s system is varied in specs and
so forth…Its still strange…..ahhhhAngelo, i wish i could help your situation, i understand the
frustration.
By the way, What are your system specs?
And what source you get the majority of your workflow (media) from?Steve Rhoden

November 8, 2011 at 2:06 pmI have an i7 950 3.07 Ghz CPU
12 GB DDR3 RAM
GeForce GTS 450
Windows 7I transfer all my footage from my Canon Vixia HF S21s to my computer via a transfer utility and usb cable. It’s AVCHD footage, which I then run through Cineform Neoscene to turn into avi. I keep all my footage and projects on external hard drives, which are actually internal hard drives that are in enclosures that run to my computer through an eSata cable.
I was able to open my projects for at least a few seconds last night and preview some footage. Now I’m getting the avi.dll error, again. I tried a fix that someone posted on Creative Cow a year ago (replace the avi.dll file with the one from the 32 bit version of Vegas), and it would just make Vegas hang and crash.
I want to reformat everything on my computer, but my friend built my computer and has my copy of Windows 7, and he hasn’t been able to get me the copy of Windows 7 for whatever reason.
What’s really strange is that if I open a new project and drag some of the media into the project media bin that is in the project that is crashing, Vegas runs fine. But I was well into my project, and this keeps happening on projects that I’m well into.

November 8, 2011 at 2:31 pmThat extra step of converting your AVCHD Clips to avi
using Neoscene sends a slight chill down my spine….lol
I can bet that is a factor why you occasionally have some issues,
because you have a decent machine and the correct drive management.
Also, a clean install as you mentioned, would be a good start.Steve Rhoden

November 8, 2011 at 2:50 pmI know, changing files to avi I think may be an issue. But I don’t have much of a choice unless I sell my cameras and get new ones. My Canon Vixia HF S21s were the best deal I could get for all they do, which is a lot for me. I have three and shoot events with them, and that’s how I make a living. I defragged my computer, cleaned up temporary files, removed the only game I had installed, did a virus scan, uninstalled all my Vegas software and reinstalled 10, did the fix with the 32 bit version of the avi.dll file, which just makes Vegas hang and then crash. Does anyone really think that reinstalling Windows will fix the problem?
And I have the latest version of Cineform, 5.5.4. Should I just sell my cameras and get Sony ones? I would happily switch editing software, I’d almost rather switch cameras since, when Vegas works, it’s superior to all other editors to me.

November 8, 2011 at 4:07 pmDo you have any issues at all rendering and working with
the native AVCHD footage from your cameras (apart from maybe
the lag while editing it on the timeline)?Steve Rhoden

November 8, 2011 at 4:10 pmNo, and I’m trying to just start over with the AVCHD footage. It does stutter when I put in any effects or transitions, but I suppose I’ll just get more RAM.
Edit: Wow. I can actually drag more than 8 clips at a time into the project media without Vegas crashing.

November 8, 2011 at 4:37 pmlol….Well, you see that most of the issue derives from
the Cineform conversion.
If i were you, i would find a way to eliminate that conversion
process from my workflow, and just deal with the little
stuttering during edits.Noticed several complaints regarding some Cineform issues also.
