Now I work with Vegas pro 9 but because of the 3-D options I like to upgrade to pro 11.
But for me the 3-D options in pro 11 are not cear (the red/green glasses don’t have my attention to much at the moment).
The technic i mean is this:
    https://www.petapixel.com/2011/09/12/stepping-into-historical-photos-with-3d-camera-mapping/

You split a single photograph in parts, you put the camara (etc) and the program makes the render (calculations). Till now in pro 9 I splitted up the photographs, put them in tracks and every track I changed a little bit to get the effect. A lot of work, especially if you want to change the camera position.

Of course you know the name of this technic is “Camera Mapping”. I didn’t for a few days ago.
Now I know you can do it in AE or Blender.

Maybe i do something wrong in Vegas, maybe i don’t use the proper technic. If so, tell me please.

My question is, is this technic with a single photograph (with automatical render) also possible in pro 11?

And when i have to use a “Camera Mapping” (3-D) program, what program fits the best to Vegas pro 11? F.e. to “import” the result into Vegas. AE is little bit expensive. Blender?

    kindly regards, theo

Wish i could help, but ive never fully tried the 3D capabilities
of Vegas. A rare requested format at this time.
Where is your 3D creations destined?

Vegas Pro 11 doesn’t do this. As you have pointed out, this is not 3-D… it’s Camera Mapping and Vegas Pro does not have a Camera Mapper. If you can’t afford After Effects and DigiEffects Depth Cue then you might as well keep on doing what you are currently doing in Vegas Pro 9.0.

The technique involves editing the image in Photoshop and cutting out the separate depth layers and exporting them to separate tracks in Vegas Pro. Then use 3D Track Motion to move them in Z depth and resize these layers in 3D space so that you reassemble the original photo. Finally make all of the 3D tracks a child of a single parent composite track and use the parent track motion to move through the image.

As John hinted on, After Effects would be a good
option for you to consider in more ways than one.

    Thanks John,
Right, at the moment I can’t afford AE and DigiEffects (depth cue).
So I thougt “Blender” is a good alternative.
But it’s not an easy program.

So first, before putting a lot of energy to learn, i like to know if it’s possible to import a “Blender” project into SV.
But I saw CC has also a “Blender” page. I guess better I ask there.
    Thanks and till next.

    kindly regards, theo

Perhaps I’m not being clear. Blender is not the tool to do this with because Blender is a 3D modeling program and the video you pointed to is a 2D image that’s cut up into different planes.

You don’t need blender. You can do this with Sony Vegas Pro alone (along with a good photo editing program like Photoshop which you would need with Blender anyway). I explained how briefly in my post. It will be much harder to try and do this in Blender than using Vegas so just use Vegas with 3D Track Motion.

    oke I understand John,

But about a week ago i saw this:

    https://www.petapixel.com/2011/09/12/stepping-into-historical-photos-with-3d-camera-mapping/

At the end in the credites “Blender” is named. So I thought …

Specialy for historical photographs of streets, squares and buidings it seemes me very nice if not used to much.

Before I did some of this “3-D” things in Vegas but in a primitive way.
So I can use your advice in this.
Do you know there is a tutorial about this kind of “3-D”?

    kindly regards, theo

Here is probably a better example.
    But made by AE.

    https://www.digieffects.com/product/buena_depth_cue#presets
(the example is in the right column somewhere in the middle. It’s named:
    “Project: Old Buildings
    Plugin: Buena Depth Cue v2
    Effect: Camera Mapper
    Project Folder Included ”

Something like this is possible in Vegas?

    kindly regards, theo

Sorry the link was not very clear.

    https://www.digieffects.com/product/buena_depth_cue#presets

and then click on: “video samples”
you will get two columns > middle of right column: “Project: Old Buildings”

    p.s. Can I re-edit my post afterwards if I made a mistake???

    kindly regards, theo

Ah… OK I see where you got that from. I’m not saying that you can’t use Blender to do this. I’m saying that you can do it in Vegas Pro so you don’t need to learn Blender. If you want to learn Blender by all means do it in Blender, but I will warn you… it’s a very difficult program to learn just to move a few pictures around when you already know Vegas Pro.

[Theo Dorus] “Something like this is possible in Vegas?”

Actually, not easily. You won’t get the 3D projections like DigiDesign’s Camera Mapper does but you can still get 3D parallax by resizing the layers yourself and using a parent track as the camera but your layers will be flat like cardboard cutouts. It would be very difficult to reassemble the 3D geometry of the houses in Vegas.

This is where Camera Mapper really helps. I’m not sure how you would do the 3D projection in Blender either. That’s a pretty specific task that Camera Mapper provides and why people buy that plug-in. If you watch the tutorials you’ll see that it’s actually done with two cameras. One of them projects the image onto the 3D geometry and the other is the view camera. There is nothing like that in Vegas (or After Effects without Camera Mapper) and as I said, I don’t know if Blender can do this.
