Hello, I recently installed Vegas 7 on a new H.P. computer (Windows XP Pro sp2). The picture in the preview window in Vegas (preview auto) is a bit blurry and jumpy. On my external preview monitor which is a t.v. hooked up via firewire through a Canopus ADVC110 is even worse. Its clear, but very jumpy! I have no other programs running. This same setup on an older computer worked fine. Any suggestions on what my problem may be or what settings may need to be changed?

    Thanks
    Dave P.

    Dave,

Do you have your preview window quality settings set to Preview Full?
If it is set to Preview Auto your preview will look a bit
soft. I often switch preview quality settings. If I want a fast framerate preview I will set my settings to a lower quality. If I’m working on graphics I’ll go with Best Full while working on them.

It’s an easy thing to overlook after an upgrade.

    Regards, Rick.

My preview is set to “preview auto” I will try “preview full” when I get home. Something is wrong because this was never a problem on my older computer. Any more thoughts out there?

    Dave,

Did setting your preview settings to full instead of auto give you a sharper preview?

Hi Rick, changing the setting to “preview full” did not change the preview as far as the jumping/jerking goes. I think I have a setting somewhere that may need to be changed or maybe an uncompatibility with something. My older computer gives me a great picture with no jumping in the preview even set at “best”. I hope I can get this figured out because it makes it a bit difficult to edit!

    Dave,

Sorry, I keyed in on the blurry part of your question and overlooked the jumpy part.

Could be many things. Could be a program running in the background such as antivirus scanner, adware scanner, that is system resourcesand interupting things.
Could even be a virus causing trouble.
There are ways to tweek XP for video editing.

I would first try shutting down virus scanners and a lot of software that the computer maker might have installed for you.
You can create a custom profile for your computer just for editing that will allow it to run lean and mean.

Here is a link to a very Tutorial fortweeking XP for Video Editing.

This is starting point. No magic bullet. But I would bet your problem is a lot of stuff running in the background.

    Perhaps others have some ideas.

    Regards, Rick.

Rick,I think I fixed the problemo. Doing the below seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. The info came from the link you gave to to the video guys.
