NEW ADOBE PREMIERE CS4 (WITHOUT MENTIONING BLACKMAGIC FULL SUPPORT, ETC.) …… ( I switch from Premiere to Vegas but…..):

    Native tapeless/file-based camera support

Take advantage of the efficiency of tapeless cameras. Edit files from the latest tapeless formats natively, including RED, P2, XDCAM, XDCAM EX and XDCAM HD, and AVCHD, without transcoding or rewrapping.

Adobe and RED Digital Cinema Camera Company are collaborating to bring a truly native, color-rich, 4K tapeless workflow to desktop tools, enabling filmmakers to harness the full potential of high-resolution raw digital cinematography. The first step of this long-term collaboration is the importer plug-in that brings native support for RED R3D files to Adobe® Premier® Pro CS4, After Effects® CS4 Professional, and Encore® CS4, allowing 4K resolution native R3D files to be dropped straight onto the timeline without transcoding or rewrapping.

Enjoy support for native editing of content from Panasonic P2 cameras in DVCPRO, DVCPRO HD, and across multiple P2 cards. View camera metadata and organize files in the media browser before importing and editing the content without transcoding or rewrapping.
Sony XDCAM, XDCAM EX, and XDCAM HD import with browsing and metadata support

Import and edit content from Sony XDCAM cameras directly, without rewrapping or transcoding. Browse clips using the media browser and organize them using camera metadata. Edit directly from the SxS card via the camera or a card reader (XDCAM EX only), or use the media browser to transfer the content to hard disk for better performance.
AVCHD editing with browsing and metadata support

Import and edit AVCHD content from Sony, Panasonic, and Canon cameras without waiting. Native editing means you can start editing content immediately without transcoding or rewrapping the content.

Edit content natively from Sony HDV cameras that record directly to removable media. Use the media browser to find clips and organize them using metadata, and then import content directly without transcoding or rewrapping.

    …. Kind Regards

    Enrique,

In all fairness and in trying to keep a sense of balance in this, I feel compelled to say that for years Vegas has held the high ground against Premiere — both in its flexibility, feature set and power.

If the new RED support and a few other things places Premiere ahead of Vegas, well let’s just say that a good product war wouldn’t be very exciting if one opponent won all the time — now would it?

From what we have been hearing around COW Headquarters (otherwise known as The Barn), the RED Team actually developed the RED support for both FCP and Adobe. We just noticed that AVID announced RED support this week. If I looked into it any depth at all, I am sure that I would find that the RED Team has again been at work helping Avid get the support. I have little doubt that they will probably get around to Vegas sooner or later. There are just too many serious users using Vegas.

    That’s my two cents,

    We are aware…..
I too have the premiere pro + suite, along with most pros here,
and we are aware of the pros and cons of each tool.
No two software are exactly alike….Thats why we have choices
to fit our individual editing needs.
