    Hey there!
I just purchased a new camera and am trying to use the clips I filmed in Vegas. But the program is functioning extremely slowly. Even just clicking between clips, it takes several seconds before the new clip shows up in the preview window. I have tried several different ‘fixes’ and nothing seems to be working. I have a feeling it has to do with the clips inputted, I have read something about ‘codecs’? (I am a self-taught editor and still learning) Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

My comp is a Toshiba Satellite S55-B
    ram: 12 GB
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.60 GHz

I think your new camera is making video files a type that Vegas has a hard time with. I bet your preview window settings are at best full. If they are, try setting it to preview auto and see if that makes a difference.

My preview settings are at Preview (auto). and I’ve played with those for way too long.

Okay, so if it IS the files, what are optimum settings for them? I can convert them, but don’t know what to. Any resources out there?

I would post your speccy info on your systemm, and “media info”(the application) on your camera media you are trying to edit. This would help us help you better.

I would try directly converting footage to xdcam.MXF or xdcam.mp4 and see if that plays back smoother for you.

Yea, what Aaron said. I believe Vegas can do that for you. Or at least to some other lossless codec file.

I know it may seem like a hassle, but converting all of your .MTS to XDCAM, then editing the xdcam will be a much better experience.

I believe the .MTS format is not that well optimized in Vegas, when compared to XDCAM. Also in the past I had issue with an old sound card editing MTS and AC3. Converting to XDCAM changes the audio from Dolby owned MP3 to uncompressed audio. Uncompressed PCM audio is more stable with most sound cards. I think editing MTS, you have two simultaneous decompressions going, then Vegas has to mux the result back to together on the fly. It is my believe this process has bugs in MS 11.

Have you tried the free trial of the latest release, to see if that is any better?
