  • Vegas Messing up on render start

So, I’m running Sony vegas pro 8.0, legal bought version. On a Alienware laptop, specced fairly ok. 8GB DDR3RAM, GeForce GTX 260M, i7 820QM, and a 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive.

The last time I used vegas, was in May, or maybe it was late April, I can’t fully remember, but it was around then. It worked perfectly, nothing messed up or anything. I’m making a short movie filmed with two cameras, a GoPro Cam, filmed in 720p with 60 FPS, the other one’s a pocket cam, recording in 720p with 29.9 FPS. For some reason, the preview window laggs insanely when I run through the 60FPS footage, so I’ve been rendering the transitions and so on every time to see how it looks like. This has worked out fine, even though it’s been a bit annoying. Yesterday, I was editing, and everything worked fine, except for the lag in the preview window on the 60FPS footage. I left the computer, to get something to eat. When I came back, things started messing up. I tried to render, but I got a message saying “Error 0x80070020 (message missing)”. I tried googling the error number, but I couldn’t find anything. I’ve had a bunch of different problems when rendering since that. I’ve had the program suddenly stopping responding several times, the same error message, a message saying I don’t have enough ram available, when I’ve got over 5GB ram available. I’ve had the program just closing down without any message or anything.
No matter what I do, I run in to one of the issues listed above. I’ve tried reinstalling the program, keeping the project file. Ofcourse rebooting the computer, checking the HD for viruses and spyware. But no matter what I do, I can’t render. Also if I try to watch anything in the preview window, for longer than approximately 5 seconds, the program stops responding…

What’s left to do besides reinstalling windows? I don’t have fast enough internet to download all the drivers and such in time for the movies deadline on Monday next week.

Make sure that you are using the latest version of Vegas Pro 8.0c. It doesn’t matter that you have 5GB of memory, 8.0 is a 32-bit application and will never see more than 2GB. Also, unless you are using slow motion, there is no reason to shoot 60p. You should be shooting at 30p and it will make your life a lot easier.

Also, if you must use 60p footage, make sure that you project is set up for 60p. Otherwise Vegas will have to convert from 60fps to 30fps just to preview.

And added to what john recommended, its easy to have a lot of software
and stuff installed on your monster laptop that could be causing this conflict.

Well, I am using slow motion, that’s the only reason we bought the GoPro camera to be honest, to have a cheap camera which shoots in high FPS. I tried calling a friend of mine who I hadn’t talked to in ages, to ask him for help, but he didn’t answer… So I called him again later today, and he was able to help me out. If anyone else has the same problem, you should try this.

Go in to options, click on preferences, click on video, and boost the maxiumum use of ram, and remove the thumbnails.

It is important to point out that you may need to lower this when you render because Dynamic RAM cannot be used for rendering and therefore steals memory away from your render.

Well, before I boosted it, I couldn’t render at all, wouldn’t even get to 0.00001%, it just crashed instantly. After I boosted it, it worked…

Ah… so it actually helped your render problem… that’s very interesting. I’ve never heard of that happening before. What was it set to before and what is it set to now?

It was set to 128MB ram, and to show all the thumbnails. Now it’s set to 500MB ram, and not showing any thumbnails. Might set it to 1GB ram, just to make use of the ram I have. Things seems to be faster now, generally. Including rendering.

OK, that’s not so bad. I keep mine at 768MB most of the time.

So I know this was posted like 2 years ago, but at the start of rendering I also get the error 800×700200 (message missing), but there is literally no information about anything. I had just before rendered the same video, but did not like the outcome, so I changed something and went back and try to do it again and the error occurred. Although after a few tries of just trying to render it, it just started rendering like the error had never appeared. Sony products ( ≖‿≖)
