I am trying to edit a project in Vegas. The Raw footage is sitting in a 500GB external drive which was formated for MAC, and is connected to my PC with a Firewire 400. I have used a program called MacDrive, which allows my Windows OS to view the contents, and have imported the footage into a Vegas Project. I do not have enough space to pull the footage into my PC, so I am limited to having the transfer occur through the Firewire. However, when I try to open the project I am told that the media is offline and I have to reconnect each individual clip (Over 200 clips). I have also recieved an error telling me “The media library suffered an irricuverable error”.

    My questions are

Can I point my My Sony Vegas Media Library to the MAC external drive?

If I reconnect each clip will this problem no longer occur and the media library recognize the path?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would try a couple of small test projects to see if you could get it to work, but you may be running into trouble with this setup. There are may areas where things can go wrong, the “foreign” file system, the MacDrive interface with Windows XP etc.

You may save your self a lot of headache by getting a new drive, formatting it under Windows XP and transfering files using MacDrive (which is probably well tested, and works) and then run the project off the new drive.
