hmm ok let’s say the format is the problem. why does the error appear from one second to the other? I was editing for 2 weeks without a problem. all with the same format.

I think if the problem is about the compatibility of a video format I should have not be able to edit without problems in the first place, no?

[Sean Dre] “I think if the problem is about the compatibility of a video format I should have not be able to edit without problems in the first place, no?”

You make a most logical argument. I have no answer as to why your issues get progressively worse.

Working with Vegas since 2002 and reading and experiencing the issues of CODEC “fit” by those with much wider and deeper understanding of the processes going on with regard to CODEC activity, than I, I’ve taken the pragmatic view that from capture/acquisition to import into Vegas for editing I would make as seemless and as non-traumatic as possible. When I’ve gone through the process of purchasing a new camera, either using CODECs for Tape or SD or CF I’ve pre-tested samples of the captured Media either on a Laptop standing in the camera shop, or back on my Edit deck in my Studio. My sole concern/requirement is getting the best editing experience allowing me to be creative and delivering that all important Narrative. I don’t need to understand “how” this complex CODEC works, I just require that it “does”, and in the least painful way as possible. After all, I don’t “know” just how the complexity of my cameras work, they just do.

Knowing that CODECs aren’t created equal, and that Camera manufacturers aren’t producing kit that exactly fits Vegas, they will and do make cameras that use the most Globally compliant CODECs as possible. Now, realistically, I’ve got two choices by testing prior to purchase either for the best “fit” or find the least painful way – pre/post-formatting – of getting my acquisition into my NLE or DAW. I’m just now remembering the head-banging issues I’d had with a nasty NOKIA Phone’s Video CODEC that drove me nuts! I’ve had issues with another Pen-type “FUN” Camera that needed interim reformatting to a standard AVI. Ugh….

I do hope some of my ramblings above make for help/solace for you. I do know that none of the companies owe me a living in getting to my narrative, but they will try and provide me with CODECs that are as nearest Globally compliant for me to use. Consequently, I do owe it to myself to reach for that Narrative in the best, simplest way.
