Vegas interpolating 1080 and 720
Posted by Rob Cioffi on July 6, 2013 at 6:45 pmI’m interested in using 1080 footage to pan and zoom in what will be ultimately a 720 format. Is it possible for Vegas to maintain the 1080 detail like a Photoshop smart layer?
Many thanks in advance.

July 6, 2013 at 10:48 pmUse pan/crop. Do not use track motion.
If your project setting is 720 and your crop size is 720 then Vegas will not do any interpolation.

July 7, 2013 at 1:01 amNorm is correct. Use Pan/Crop and not Track Motion and keep your project at 720 and as long as you don’t crop the 1080 media beyond 720 it will use the full quality of the original footage.

July 12, 2013 at 11:15 pmTrack Motion works at the Track level so it conforms the video to the project size BEFORE it does any zooming. This should only be used for repositining the frame or making it smaller to create a picture-in-picture. Pan/Crop works with the original footage at the original resolution which is what you want for cropping.
