  • vegas has stopped working during render ( crashes, vegas 9 )

Posted by Lee Hayward on July 25, 2009 at 10:14 am

ive made a break through and have managed to render 10 clips without doing anything unusual, no ending processes just simply ram to 0 (like i always have it ) and somehow it just decided to work,

But!! now i have the problem again but its NOT always system low on error during the render it just stops and comes up with a large vegas has stopped working error message which gives you an option to write was you was doing at the time and send the report to sony,

i get this everytime i render now, but at diffrenet times it can be 10% or 20 % or anything but it usally stays in a small radius of the previous render zone , example last render error 17 %, this render error 20 % , new render error 15%, so i am thinking this could be related to the hard disk space available, i have 219GB free so it shouldnt be a problem.

so what is causing this, when i had the system is low on memory error it usally came in the 1% , i ocasionally still get the error message but at simiallar times to when the vegas has stopped working errors appear.

what is happening i need to complete the project by this week, so i have 2days to fix the error and complete, please help me, this is now offically driving me insane i just CANT figure out what is causing it, ive had problems before with rendering but this is definetly the worst like i said i was rendering fine a couple days ago with no changes.

(in this clip im rendering now, its always an vegas has stopped working between 10% and 20%) bad corrupt clip maybe but it can pass it sometimes so memory….

argh im going insane i have 2 days to fix and complete the project

Lee, as i told you earlier that im looking into something…According
to the list i asked you for earlier (I presume you have backup
    copies of all your software
) Uninstall & remove all traces of
Limewire and both Bitdefender total security and Spybot search and destroy
And then lets see how Vegas behaves.

well, ive only just got your reply, but its fixed again i didnt do anything, it seemed to correct itself. crazy programme aint it, thanks anyway.

oh i do have a small problem now in my main project with all my clips i am editing them togther, but in my timeline the clips and preview screen will go red occasionally( sometimes black, but 90% of the time red) and the programme can run laggy and slugish, i just got system low on memory error but while editing, which is a first and fairly strange, are they going red due to some memory issues it can produce an image?.
    thanks

    Hi Lee.

    >>i just got system low on memory error but while editing, which is a first and fairly strange, are they going red due to some memory issues it can produce an image?.

Um, first, what Steve said. If you need AV software you can run a thirty-day free trial of another program such as AVG.

Second, just to refresh my memory, are you using vp9 or vp9a? (Vp9a solves some rendering problems.)
Dynamic ram preview is set to zero?
Reduce maximum number of rendering threads to 1?
    Defrag hard drives?
Set the initial and max swap/paging file size to 1.5 times the amount of ram you have (static swap file)?
    Reboot (to defrag paging file)?
Kill all unnecessary programs (such as AV)?

Then try again, and please let us know.

    -vp9a

Dynamic ram preview is set to zero?
-0, but i reset it back to 350 to se if it will stop the red images, now back at 0

Reduce maximum number of rendering threads to 1?
-what it this? also i change between 1 and 4 makes no change

    Defrag hard drives?

-yes used microsoft dianostics defragmentation tool to defrag drive

Set the initial and max swap/paging file size to 1.5 times the amount of ram you have (static swap file)?
    -3gb ( 1024 x 3 ) 3072 – 3072 x 1.5 = 4608
-paging file was on 4608 min and max now reset to system managed? shall i change back

    Reboot (to defrag paging file)?

-reboot is a restart i presume, yes have restarted many many times

Kill all unnecessary programs (such as AV)?

-cannot shut down bitdefender but can shut down sybot search and destroy

-i can open the large media file(the project)file,vp9a
-i can open new file with the new rendered files,vp9a
-i cannot put/import the new vegas files/rendered clips in the large meida file( the project) without getting the ‘not responding’ issue and clips go red.

Yes. Change it back, and leave it as static.

    >>-cannot shut down bitdefender but can shut down sybot search and destroy

This is a long shot, but can you uninstall Bit Defender?

Also temporarily uninstall Spybot Search and Destroy.

If that does not work then all I can recommend is prayer (which I recommend in any case).

I am having the same problem with Vegas 8. It’s HD cineform codec video. I’ve never had a problem with smaller 2-3 minutes videos, but this one is 1.5 hours and I cannot render it without crashing.

I tried installing a demo of Vegas 10 to see if it’s any better… Same problem. After 10 years of using Vegas Video, back before it was even Sony, I am ready to give up and try different software.
