  • Vegas hangs when moved to background then to foreground

In Win7, x64, Vegas hangs horribly each time I either minimize and maximize or swap windows with another app then back to Vegas. With a few clips in the project, Vegas hangs for a few seconds. With dozens of clips then it hangs for dozens of seconds. The hang time is much less when pulling clips from a local drive. What on earth is causing this? This hang renders Vegas unuseable when using clips from a network (1Gb) drive.

Try going into Preferences and select:
Close media files when not the active application
Under the General tab….See if that helps.

[Steve Rhoden] “Try going into Preferences and select:

I believe that what Steve meant to say was “Deselect” this option. When enabled (which is the default), Vegas will close all media when it looses focus so that you can work on them with other applications like Sound Forge. The delay you are experiencing may be because Vegas has to re-open all of the files and you are storing them on a slow network drive. If you uncheck this, Vegas will keep the files open and not require the delay. The down side is you will not be able to edit these files outside of Vegas while Vegas has them open.
