I’ve been a really BIG Vegas fan but I have to vent and say that I’m getting really tired of the “not responding” and “Vegas has stopped working” screens. It’s really frustrating to think of all the time I spend redoing and starting over…

And now it seems when I open certain projects, the “opening project” % thing on the bottom left of the screen goes to 1 or 2% stops there, makes me wait several minutes and then Vegas stops working all together. Now a project that I was using last night won’t even open.

This was happening with Vegas 10c and now it’s happening with 10D
Vegas has been acting up so badly that I totally reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows7 thinking that would help but nothings changed….

    Geez!

    What!
Sorry to hear that…and i know you probably have tried everything
    i would recommend.
Im just wondering if you have any other software installed that
is causing Vegas to behave this way.
Would you believe i dont use Vegas 10? Have it, but don’t use it.
I still work in Vegas 9.0e

That’s a good point. I have a few plugins installed. Maybe I’ll uninstall them one at a time and see what happens. It’s like trying to reinvent the wheel here…

I go through the same thing every now and then. The “Vegas has stopped working screen” comes out of the clear blue. I do notice it shows up more often than not when I am using BBC7. Most times it is when I am looking for a certain look to the fx. I am thinking I may not be giving it enough time to do the work, but how long should I be expected to wait?

My other peeve is being stuck at 33% after applying a fx to an event. I try to close out of Vegas and get a message telling me there is a background operation in progress. I go into the task manager and the only thing running is Vegas. I let it sit one time and it sat for half a day before I forced it to shut down.

On another note, when it does stop working, where does the report go and what is actually done with it?

I got a small trick that can really help in some dramatic situations. When you have a veg project that crashes during opening do the following:

    1) change the name of your footage folder so Vegas won’t find the clips from the project
    2) open your troublesome veg project
    3) now Vegas can’t find missing clips. Ignore this and leave them offline
    4) as you can see your project has just opened (but with all media offline of course)
    5) open another Sony Vegas session
    6) copy all clips from the original project to the new, empty project and save
    7) close both Vegas sessions
    8) change the name of your footage folder back to its original name
    9) open the new project you created – now it opens with no problem

Hope this works for you because it saved my life many times.

Thanks Grzegorz. Great tip! I hope I don’t have to use it a whole lot.
