Getting a Sony Vegas error when i try to render.

When i click ‘Render as’ (I can’t actually get into the ‘Render as’ window) i get the following error message:

An error occurred while creating the media file .
    Exception thrown by method called

I’m using Vegas 11 64bit, it seems i’ve tried everything but reformatting and don’t know what else to do. I can’t use vegas 10/9/8 as my project file won’t work.

I’ve posted everywhere and no one seems to of heard of it, anyone know a possible fix?

    Thanks.

Try disabling GPU in preferences and see if you have any luck.

No luck unfortunately, im desperate not to reformat it would be a massive inconvenience. I was hoping to release this project next week but i’ve been looking for a fix for some time now, have you heard of this error before?

    1) Download the latest build of Vegas. If you already have that, go the opposite way an use an earlier build
    2) Try installing and opening the project in a 32 bit version of Vegas and rendering. You can have both versions on Windows x64.
    2) You can also try defaulting your Vegas settings. Hold down CTRL and SHIFT when starting Vegas and it will reset (almost all) settings back to their factory defaults.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Sounds to me like a Windows problem, but it can’t hurt to re-install Vegas.

Here’s what I suspect – when you click on “Render As”, the dialog box opens pointing to the last folder you “rendered” to, or your documents folder if Windows can’t open the last “Render As” folder used.

Could Windows be having a problem with that folder?

Thanks for your help everyone, really, but i’m still having no luck. I only ever render to ‘My documents’ or ‘Desktop’ and those locations are still intact. Even if this wasn’t the case, would a re install fix that? Just to make sure that definitely not the problem.

Is there any drastic action i can take to ensure vegas will work WITHOUT re-formatting? I’ve re-installed about 15 times on different versions with a variety of suggested fixes and it hasn’t worked. All other versions of vegas are working fine but not 11. I really appreciate your help, and would appreciate ANY further suggestions!

    Regards.

How many hard-disk drives do you have and how much space is free on each of them?

Is your C drive a RAID array? What RAID level, and why??

Run chkdsk on the C: drive.

I don’t recall from earlier posts, but is this problem a new development or has it always acted this way.

I’m suffering from the same problem…

If I go the ‘make Movie’ route, I have the choice of where to create the movie.
If I choose ‘hard drive’ then I get the error.
However, if I choose ‘Burn to DVD’ then it works OK, does the rendering, and invites me to send it to DVD architect for final touches.

So – to get your project going again, you might want to consider that procedure. There are other tools available to convert from your new DVD to a more suitable format.
