Vegas & DVDA for BD Output
I’m using Vegas 10 Studio and DVDA5 (not the Pro versions) and I’m hoping that someone can answer a few questions please !
Does DVDA5 only accept .AVC files to create BD media without (re) compression ? If yes, then it appears from my tests that only the Sony AVC render templates work as attempts with Mainconcept AVC seem to create .MP4 files that DVDA always wants to recompress – does that sound right, is a limitation of ‘Studio’ ?
My source media is from a combination of cameras that film in either 25 or 50 fps (Europe) so I’m limiting Vegas render templates to 25/50fps 1080 templates with the aim of creating menus based BD media.
I have been experimenting with various settings and it’s a bit frustating that 25i or 25p MP4 renders direct from Vegas using Mainconcept produce a significantly better quality movie file than the equivalent 50i Sony AVC renders that I am having to use to put movies onto a BD via DVDA (without further compression) – should I be expecting a loss in quality from physically buring a BD – it doesn’t sound right to me !
Maybe I have some other settings causing differences between the M/C and Sony renders ? Anyone got any suggestions please ?

Since you are using Movie Studio, you should be pressing the Make Movie button and following the wizard to make a Blu-ray in DVD Architect. It will show you the proper templates to use so that there is no guessing. If you want to render yourself, you must select a template that has “Blu-ray” in the name, otherwise it will be recompressed to make it Blu-ray compliant.

I’ve been using my version of Vegas infrequently for a few years and always used the ‘Render As’ option – had no idea there was a wizard in the Studio edition !
I’ll give it a test and see if I can burn a BD with similar quality to the MP4 files – I’m assuming this should be a given and there must be a rendering or post processing error somewhere for me to be getting poorer quality BD vs MP4 in previous tests ?
