Vegas Doesn’t Like A Specific MP4 File
Hello…
I’m working on a multicamera shoot and Vegas is having an issue with files from one camera.Here is the information, for these files…
Whenever a file from that camera is selected (trimmer, timeline, etc…), Vegas hangs for minutes.
Eventually, the audio will play without video.
I can play the files with Windows Media Player, so my computer must have the appropriate CODEC.
Do I need to install something, specifically, for Vegas?Also, other .mp4 files play fine.
It’s not just an issue with MP4, in general.

If you look at the First video stream numbers, you will see that the frame rate is not 29.97 but something else. Most likely, that camera (a phone?) is not shooting at a constant frame rate, but rather a variable frame rate even though MediaInfo says it’s constant. To use such footage, you will have to transcode it, e.g. using Handbrake, to make sure the frame rate is constant. Vegas and other pro editors do not ingest variable frame rate video. There will be some generational loss this time when you transcode, so in the future, may sure that your camera is indeed recording at a constant frame rate.

I didn’t notice the numbers, after the decimal.
I just saw 29 and went on.
It was done with a tablet.
I let the kiddo just run around to do some b-roll.

There is an app called Filmic Pro that can solve this problem. I believe they have both iPhone and android versions, although I’ve never used them. In any case, it is highly recommended by others and only $10.
