Vegas crashes when importing mpeg videos

Have you simply tried just importing the DVD into vegas itself and
try working from that….although i am not sure if the studio
version of vegas you are using has this ” import from DVD” feature.

what kind of DVD is it? Are you trying to grab clips form a commercial copyrighted DVD with copy protection?

I didn’t even know about that feature, but I just tried it and got the same result. It successfully rips the entire DVD and then fails to import the mpg clips and crashes with the same error messages as before.

I was just testing with a few DVDs and yeah they are commercial movies that I own. I tried ripping and importing a DVD I made myself and that seemed to work. I still don’t understand why I would successfully be able to rip any DVD with DVD Shrink and watch the mpeg files but then not be able to import them. Does the copy protection get saved into the video files and interfere with Vegas some how? Also, I tried AoA dvd ripper and ripped everything into AVI format and imported it all into Vegas just fine…

EDIT: I just tried AoA dvd ripper again and ripped into mpeg format, it imports into Vegas just fine, so it seems only mpegs from DVD Shrink fail to import. DVD Shrink is free though, and I like how it works better.

I also tried running AnyDVD in the background, it removed copy protection and I still ran into the same problems. I’m pretty certain this is just a problem with Vegas not importing some files correctly. Although I don’t know why it would specifically not work with DVD Shrink mpegs while working just fine with AoA mpeg files…

I have watched this thread and am having a similar problem. I have a gateway q6600 6 gb ram 64 bit and am running Vegas Pro 8.1. It invariably locks up after importing from the dvd (in this case a sony camcorder minidvd). The files are always imported to the receiving folder, the problem occurs as they attempt to load. I have the same problem if I then import from that folder. I have been on the phone with Sony and gone through their procedure of uninstalling and reinstalling the program (september 2008 latest version} to no avail, same problem. I have another similar machine same configuration with 32 bit and have no problem. Any ideas? thanks

Same prob here. Vegas 8/8.1 crashes with mpeg2 files. We’re on 64bit machine but can’t figure if its that or the fact that Vegas can’t handle AC3.

Any updates anyone?
